I have just submitted my essay for my application to uni for a child protection degree and controversially pulled apart the case of jamie bulger.

There in itself is a casing point.

Just because they were children themselves they were not as accountable. They have been given a new life, new names, anonomity . . go figure !

So with all that they did to that poor boy ( and shame on the authorities for letting them go a few days earlier having prevented them from an attempted child snatching in the same mall ) you tell me they were too young to be responsible for their actions ?

Sentences should be consistant and should not mean 10 years but really if you behave inside you’ll be out in 3 . . . oh and the 2.5 yrs you’ve been waiting forthe trial counts towards it. Life should be life ! Myra Hindley & Ian Brady . . got life . . and did life ! Sentences seemed harsh back then compared to now, but they weren’t, they were kept real! Its more a case that sentences are far too lenient these days , and that’s if your case even gets to court !

Count me in for whatever goes.

“Innocent until proven Guilty (beyond all reasonable doubt)” is a fine concept and is one that protects ALL of us against being falsely accused or wrongly convicted.

However, it seems to me that this wonderful concept applies only to the (alleged) perpetrator of a crime. The victim has no protection under law – as the law only comes into effect AFTER a crime has been (allegedly) committed.

I certainly agree with the post on your other thread Cath, that the Human Rights Act ought to be repealed – and the sooner the better.

unfortunately the law also prevents previous guilty convictions for the same or similar offence of being heard in court. All too often the ‘victims’ are let down, not handled correctly and not given any support during and after the event. Easy to see why victims often grow up to be offenders ( or at the very least off the rails and uncontrollable ). From personal experience I even found out the case had been dropped via friends of freinds and not from any official party.

I do not believe any guilty party ever becomes ‘reformed’ and is safe to be part of a community again.

Our laws and justice system needs a good overhaul
