To reply to emm’s points: yes, we’ve made mistakes in the past and the time is now to pay for those mistakes. Chickens coming home to roost and all that.
Hey, I’m pretty vigilant. I had a good look out of the front door this morning, but didn’t see anything suspicious happening, so I closed it and went back in again.
Coppers are only really interested in making easy arrests, so they go for the soft touches, and there’s no more softer touch than someone who hasn’t actually committed a crime. Come on, they’ve got targets to meet after all, targets, I hasten to add, set by the New Trash Labour government, so it’s not their fault really, is it!
In the meantime, illegals and terrorists can go about their business with impunity, and the hate-mongers can carry on preaching their filth with relative impunity.
Don’t you just love living in modern Britain!!
3 July, 2007 at 11:15 am #274753Ah, it’s great to see that great British bulldog spirit is alive and kicking. We need guys like you running the country, that’d sort a few things out!
Listen to Ugo – The Voice Of Reason!!
3 July, 2007 at 11:03 am #274763I was in two minds about posting that joke because I didn’t think it was actually that good, but glad you liked it.
2 July, 2007 at 11:29 am #274751We all know that closing our borders will just make it harder for someone to enter this country illegally but won’t stop them.
Anyway, how exactly do you ‘close’ a border?? It’s a physical impossibility for a start.
2 July, 2007 at 11:23 am #274583Even the great Talon is struggling with that pesky quote tag. I think I need to get to grips with that problem with both hands.
2 July, 2007 at 11:13 am #274757Each of your statements contains a contributory factor to our current predicament, but this issue is far from black and white, there is no single cause for it, and there is no single answer.
At the root cause of most world terrorism, of course, is still this land dispute between Israel and Palestine, something which has been going on for nigh on sixty years now, and something which Western politicians are singularly unable to get to grips with, or to find a solution agreeable to all parties involved. Events like Iraq and Afghanistan are nothing more than side-shows around this dispute, and until this is sorted out once and for all, don’t expect Arab antipathy towards the West to abate any time soon.
2 July, 2007 at 10:53 am #274441I can see where emma’s coming from with this one. As sad as it may seem, people do have a natural tendency to congregate with others of a similar ethnic background and of similar social and financial standing. And in your private life, of course, you can choose where you live and the friends you have, whether they’re the same as you or completely the opposite. Your choice completely!
When it comes to public servants of course, we by and large have less of a choice and have to take what we’re given, so on that premise I would rather see our public servants have some talent and be fit for purpose, especially so with our police force. And since we live in a multicultural, multi faith society, because this is what has been dictated to us by our politicians, the police force should have a fair representation of all society.
Sure, in Fairy Land you’d probably have white coppers in white areas, black coppers in black areas etc, but in modern Britain that just ain’t going to happen, so don’t have any expectations that this is something achievable. As for me personally, I really ain’t bovvered if I see a white copper or a black copper pouding the beat round here, they both get the same ‘respec’ (which is a lot if they do a good job, and not a lot if they do a bad job).
29 June, 2007 at 8:20 pm #274420you’re welcome, Melech. :)
29 June, 2007 at 11:32 am #269066This is why I stopped watching Question Time about 20 years ago. I suddenly woke up to the fact that you don’t actually get any questions answered, and all the programme is about is really an hour’s worth of verbal diarrhoea.
Thanks, but no thanks!! :x
29 June, 2007 at 11:26 am #274413Tony’s now a Middle East peace envoy
I think his first task will be to go and make a personal visit to each and every relative of all the innocent dead Iraqi civilians, none of whom asked to die, and explain to them why they have lost their loved ones. Maybe he could bring back a little comfort into their wretched lives.
That should keep him busy for a very, very long time!!
