well Baudelaire said that to dream magnificently is not a gift given to all men, and even for those who possess it, it runs a strong risk of being progressively diminished by the ever-growing dissipation of modern life and by the restlessness engendered by material progress. The ability to dream is a divine and mysterious ability; because it is through dreams that man communicates with the shadowy world which surrounds him. But this power needs solitude to develop freely; the more one concentrates, the more one is likely to dream fully, more deeply.
but then again Keats said that fanatics have their dreams, wherewith they weave a paradise for a sect.
so i dunno, the sunshine, fields and policewoman strongly suggest your childhood and a female authority figure.

20 March, 2008 at 10:41 am #318692I was made to stick ’em in the books and there were loads. Still have nightmares. There were some social workers in those days but they were called Aunty Bertha down the street and she always had a rolling pin handy if you stepped out of line.
But whats that got to do with the JerryHatTrick invasion ? It simply can’t go like this and I think we should employ feral gangs of hoodies to work door in 50s, and quite possibly lounge too.
We like our chats about frayed and dog-eared library tickets and these idyllic conversations should not be allowed to just fall by the wayside like so much else.
I’m not sure what it is I’m demanding because I just forgot who I am but, whatever it is, I sure do demand it. And now.

There’s a particular tank top down at my local Co-Op that I’ve had me eye on.

Most of what you say Toy is a lot to do with my point. There are parents in China at this moment putting their kids through gruelling daily regimes in the hope they will be the next big thing. They have no child-hood other than running, training, more running, more training, bed, more running, eat a little, more training.
I think it is really sad. We would as you say all be pleased if our kids can do well, but they are just so extreme.
In all ways. :(
Well it’s more of a state-sponsored programme because these particular Games are incredibly important to the Chinese authorities for reasons of national prestige. The jobs of the coaches depend on results and this makes them absolutely ruthless in pursuing success at the expense of their own kids crippled for life. I understand that there are many socio-economic reasons for the parents to go along with this.
But where do you draw the line between our own sportsmen who are also training hard and the Chinese ? Other countries will win plenty of ‘clean’ medals and surely that makes their reward even greater ? Why should they be punished by the politicians?

Thank you for your kindness and understanding Marmaduke.
Just to clarify things a bit for you. A while ago we went through a phase where some of our less adult members felt it necessary to insert numerous (and some might say unnecessary) expletives into their text, in the mistaken belief that this somehow enhanced the meaning that they were trying to convey.
Our response was to apply a sense of humour to the situation, by altering said expletives, using the message board software, rather than by taking a more robust and prescriptive line.
Of course it is entirely possible to use an expletive in a post, as you have so ably demonstrated, but this requires a concious act on the part of the poster, which we hope will reduce the general use of such expletives and thereby add intellectual value to the various posts made and read by our users.
Yes I know that it’s a shitty trick to alter expletives …. but we don’t fucking care.
hahaha loving ya work admin geezer
