Just had a right story from a taxi driver and I fully expect its true.

Im sure you guys are familiar with Charlie from casualty?

Well this taxi driver reckons he picked him up from the train station here last night, made him stop at a takeaway, then counted out the exact 12.80 fare!

I saw him years ago in a trendy pub down town I said hiya chas he picked up his bottle of becks made a sound that bordered on disgust and left the bar!

    Proper Charlie indeed.

Anyone here almost had any brushes with fame?

The year was late 1959, my gran was a cleaner in the once grand Adelphi hotel in Liverpool. This particular area around Lime st station had a world wide reputation for ” ladies of the night” one lady whos name was immortalised in a famous song ” maggie may ” Judy Garland even sang about Maggie May. Back to my story. Liverpool was booming with the mersey beat sounds also we had lots of american singers performing at the Liverpool Empire a Mr Frank Sinatra being one of them but this story isnt about Frank its about a Mr Sammy Davis Jr who was performing that weekend at the Empire. His manager booked sammy into the Adelphi under an assumed name. After the show ended he most likely went out through the stage doors into Ma Egertons pub where he proberly met one of these ladies of the night and took her back to his room…anyway next morning my gran went to clean his room and found him on his hand and knee’s feeling around the floor in a panic the lady of the night had nicked his diamond ring he wore on his little finger ! Sammy gave my gran a phone number incase she found it and gave her a fiver to say nothing. Later that day Sammy left Liverpool to get to his next performance at the royal variety show in London ( not sure if my gran she ever told anyone but i knew my gran could keep a secret as she never snitched on me for sagging off school ete etc ) When my gran died in 1979  in her old black clutch bag where she kept her insurance policies etc was the faded piece of paper with the phone number still clear  ( did anyone ring it ?) of course we did hahaha said ” number longer available ” You can see the ring on his little finger in this picture.

I have a story and I’ve no reason to disbelieve it. 3 of my Mums sisters emigrated to USA, 2 had married GI’s , the 3rd went to stay with one of them, became a nanny then married an Italian American. They were living in Boston. Fairly newly married the Older sister was living in tenements in Boston. One day a ‘ workman’ knocked on the apartment door, said he was working on some cabling in the building and asked my Aunt for a glass of water. It was hot and humid and my Aunt felt sorry for him, told him to wait there and went to fetch him a glass of cold water, coming back to the front door she found he had stepped into the hallway, just then my other Aunt who was staying with her came out of her bedroom and into the hall, the guy jumped, grabbed the water, drank it and scarpered PDQ.

A few months later they were watching TV when my aunt let out a scream and was shaking, she’d recognised the workman who’d asked for water on the TV News, he was Albert De Salvo !!  Far as I know she informed the police and gave a statement but nothing more came of it I don’t think. Well, who knows if anything would have happened had my other Aunt not been there, maybe nothing would have, bit scary tho, realising you gave a glass of cold water to  The Boston Strangler !!

Lol I can think of a few that will roar with this story. In disbelief perhaps.

Several years ago when I too was in the political arena, I was with a few attending a Republican party dinner. I was a guest with another, invitation only so to speak.

We were at an extremely fancy restaurant, all dressed elegant…they had many walking around with fancy finger food snacks, long table against the wall with other fancy goodies…not interested in snails, raw fish eggs, and stuff not known what was, I eyed my favorite appetizer fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato and olive oil , Italian fresh bread.

Walking to table with plate few people to my right and left. Not paying attention, I eyed and was so hungry. Going to be long while before sit down formal dinner. Going over with plate I was trying to scoop mozzarella up to place in my dish. Kept sliding off fork..back into oil..splashed all over my fancy gown. I was so upset. Still not looking the gentlemen on left took my plate. Gentleman on right handed me napkin to dry to dab off..not successful, not realizing what I said, “shyte good dress first time, cleaners tomorrow.” Still not looking up all laughed as I said the oops word..one said to me..I just did same thing on my tie, see what olive oil did? Other said with louder laughter I did my cuff of sleeve.. busting out and feeling relief we all got dirty, used a curse word as they both said we said same, Trump to my left, Governor of our State to the right. I almost died from embarrassment. This several years ago. Lol.. but these guys as normal as you and I too!

Well I was also once 50 foot away from big daddy the wrestler at the Bristol Colston hall,

I wanted to get closer but the front row was these crazy women who would often verbally abuse the wrestlers pull the wrestlers hair , sometimes even stub cigs out on wrestlers legs.

I was rather put out to find out big daddys name was Shirley.
