I spotted this article in the press this morning:
@Reuters newsagency wrote:
The advertising watchdog said on Thursday it would take action to remove billboard adverts that ask: “Want longer lasting sex?” after the Advanced Medical Institute (AMI), the firm behind the posters, indicated it would not willingly remove them.
The ASA said it had received over 400 complaints and was investigating whether the adverts, on 196 sites around the country, were offensive and inappropriate.
The AMI said the call for it to withdraw what it described as an awareness campaign was “bizarre” and that the ASA was reacting to “hysteria and pressure from a relatively small group of people.”
The AMI, which provides treatment for men suffering from erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, said direct advertising was the best means of reaching its target audience.
This set me thinking (dangerous, I know). Who on earth is this “relatively small group of people” that have reacted so “hysterically”???
All the AMI is doing it to draw attention to the benefits of Viagra and similar erectile dysfunction medicines. What is there to get “hysterical” about then eh??? Alright, so a chap can last four minutes instead of the regulation three – is this so terrible that people have to complain to the ASA about it?
I’ll bet that a high proportion of them are female Church of England priests…. bloody killjoys!!!

9 January, 2009 at 11:01 pm #388627In fairness I guess not – although I suspect that most early teens would know the answer to the question.
9 January, 2009 at 11:10 pm #388628I’m a bit surprised they chose billboards to advertise. i’d have thought the best method would be direct mail.
