I had an unusual experience this week… was in a dress shop in Harrogate trying on dresses for a formal thing Im going to….. in the next changing room was a woman doing the same thing… she was trying to decide which dress of two she liked and asked my advice.

She looked great in both of them so I asked well whats the “do” you are going to thinking that would help make the decision. Turns out the “do” was the BAFTAs and she was up for best producer of the TV show Scott and Bailey… her name is Yvonne Francas and she is the daughter of Kay Mellor… her sister is Gaynor Faye…. and they look so alike I thought it was Gaynor at first….

Anyway she chose a white Donna Karon dress… and she looked stunning in it…. watch out for her on the red carpet at the BAFTAs

Anyone else had chance meetings with famous people?

In a shoe shop in Brighton a few years ago, I started chatting to a woman who was trying to choose between 3 pairs of shoes before spotting the ones I was trying on. She was worried about whether she’d be able to walk in them, although she didn’t think there’d be much walking to do…when I asked if it was a special occassion she said “oh just some tv award ceremony or other with my husband”. At that point her husband walked in…Christopher Ellison who played DCI Burnside in The Bill. I have to say he had the most piercing blue eyes I have ever seen and oozed charisma – a charming man who looks much better in the flesh than he does on TV.

Longer ago than that…I was travelling back to Cambridgeshire and missed my train. With 40 minutes to kill, I sat in one of the coffee areas on the platform. Reading my book, I became aware of a tall man standing at my table and looked up to see Nigel Planer, who asked if him and a friend could share my table. I’d love to say I had a great chat with him but his friend sat down and talked non-stop for 30 minutes solid while he looked like he’d rather be somewhere else.

I’ve been in the company of several famous (or infamous!) people, i.e. the same restaurant or the same bar). Sometimes I’ve recognised them, sometimes I haven’t and friends have pointed them out, sometimes I wouldn’t have had a clue who they were anyway (much to my shame I once sat on the next table at a hotel restaurant, within touching distance, of Jenson Button and his girlfriend. Everyone else on my table was getting excited and I had no idea why…it wasn’t until he’d left that they told me who he was. It was early in his career and I said “who?”)
