Gawd..you all obviously wouldn’t recognise sarcasm if it painted itself purple and did a tap dance on a harpsichord whilst singing….Sarcasm is here again!!!

i would. and stop defending him mims…he/s a big boy.

erm…i HAVE to be honest here,,i read into the comment as “sardonic wit” he put up,,” of course it didnt happen i put it up for erm whatever”..i cant remember verbatim..

but i realised he was being sarcastic,,as in making out ” oh yeah id put this all up,,waste MY time and yours, with a lie”

dagger will never defend me,,but i read between the lines and realised he was merely being flippant.

oh YES i know my wee love,,,but i DO think he was taking sarcasm to another level..when he professed that “he lied” .. my sons birthday noo..26 !

and NOT for one moment was i digressing on your motherhood,,was merely saying ,,his annoying (shaz.pip and cas) you was making HIM laugh..

thats one of the things that make me laugh on here,,the ” experts” are always those without kiddies x

and i,,in response DID say id rather the ” pat on back” for wee ones rather than the Heimlich ! as i have done with my own..

Well I for one am thoroughly puzzled. I re-read the Rotter’s post in which he says “I made this story up to impress a chatroom desperado like you”.

I am known to dabble in the black art of sarcasm from time to time, and I must say I found it a bit difficult to see this as sarcasm. I suspect that the Rotter didn’t think that his thread would get the attention or responses that it eventually did get.

That said, there is actually an underlying serious point here – even if the Rotter chose an odd way to bring it to people’s attention.

It really is a good idea if everybody has SOME knowledge of the correct action to take when confronnted with a person who is choking. The plain fact is that if you keep your head and apply the correct technique, you can save a life …. rather than panic and stand helplessly by as they suffocate to death.

maybe i our sarcasticed (is that a new word) the sarcastic one :) i read things differently after a few drinks,,and yes i WAS drinking last night,! seldom drink midweek now,but last night was different….
im still sure im right,in the cold light of day. But i agree,,if its helped save ONE life..then its not been in vain.

ruby it is a pat on the back for little tiny ones, and it is the heimlich for older ones. And yes it is good to have a refresher and know you know what to do. As parents we have all had to do emergency first aid and have used common sense i’m sure, even if we hadn’t had any official training.

We also use “old wives tales” like putting butter on burns etc (incidentally don’t do this, just immerse the burned bit as soon as possible into cold water !!! or if it is really really bad apparently you can put cling film over the burn to keep it clean until you get to hospital, but that is for when all the skin is coming off eeek).

Maybe this thread should be turned into a general hints and tips on what to do in emergencies. :)
