completely agree with Chess (must be a first  ) I have a donor card and have registered on line. Hope she doesnt mind me saying this but I did so after getting to know Chess – her situation influenced me to do so She made me realise people could benefit from a better quality of life and spend longer with their loved ones if I wasnt so selfish to want to have my organs when Ive gone and don’t need them. I don’t believe that dying without your organs affects your after life etc and I think its a shame we dont all take time out to register AND inform your next of kin!!

fgs in this culture of recycling why not include your organs! I’d happily be a live donor for any of my family if I was compatible but luckily this isnt needed

I carry a donor card, have done since I was 18.

When you die, you die – it should be compulsory for everyone to be donors and you should only carry a card or sign a register if you DONT want to donate your body to others when you die.

[just registered online as well – took 1 minute – everyone should do it!]

There are countries that do this Morticia. Its called an opt out system. Belgium is one of these as far as i know and when a kidney is required relatives are asked to be tested to see if they match for possible donation. If they dont want to donate their organs when they die they simply sign a form ……….easy as.
We dont have this option the government in its glory would rather have people suffer and be kept alive by dialysis machines at a cost of approx £15000 a yr per patient. Specialised units are required specialised staff are needed. The cost is phenomenal. Then they moan about the cost. Maybe there is logic in this somewhere i just cant seem to find it. And no quips pls about me being female or from Northern Ireland

i will donate any organ they wanna take when i die as it may help someone but im afraid to give blood. i know its silly but i hate needles. i have tried but never got far enough then i had tattoos and couldnt.
when i was 16 i did have a card that entitled my skin to go to research instead of using animals. i got it from some protestor against animal testing but i lost it.

when i die of natural causes, anyone is free to help themselves to my organs if it will help them

if i’m murdered or died in suspicious circumstances however, the organs get buried with me

i wonder if you can do it like that :-k if so then they’re free to have my organs

The point is Tommy that when you die (which could be sooner than you expected  ) people can’t just help themselves to your organs in this country. Your relatives have to be asked if they would mind them being harvested, it all takes time at a point when the bereaved don’t really want to think about things like that. If you have a donor card, it means that, if and when you eventually pop your cloggs, your organs can be used to save lives without giving your relatives further grief.

However, i think this country has it backwards… in Europe most countries have organ harvesting as the norm, and you have to carry a card if you don’t want your organs to be used after you die. I think this is far more sensible. Then Tommy, you could have a card to say you categorically don’t want your organs to be taken UNLESS you died of natural causes, and if there is any hint of a suspicion that you were murdered for your manky liver, then the perpertrators will be hunted down and justice will prevail !!!!!

I carry a donor card, and I also give blood. When you die, you won’t need your kidneys, lungs, liver, heart, corneas or pancreas. So why not give someone else the chance of life.

    manky liver??

i’ll have you know i am in perfect health and i plan to outlive every person on this board [-(

nah but seriously i’m going to look into it, i won’t need ’em when i’m gone, people are welcome to my organs. i might as well get a card thingy

by the time i’m dead they probably won’t even need donated organs though!

Well maybe they will invent a grow your own pack! Then you can grow your own organs and carry them about with you just in case you need them.

Please God you are never in the situation Tuts but why dont you ask them what their wishes are and then you will be in no doubt. They may want to donate they may not but at least you will know you are carrying out their wishes.

=D> =D> =D> =D> @rubyred. There are many greatful recipients out there cos of great selfless people like you. Thank you x x x
