    I love French but we don’t have any threads dedicated to the language.

    Today has been significant for me because of something that happened an hour ago. I’ve learned a lesson and I hope to put that right in everything I do in the future. So in French…..

    Quand un ami ne tenez à votre avis, il serait peut être temps de décider si oui ou non il s’agit en fait d’un ami du tout.

    If a friend does not choose to follow the advice you offer them it is not time to stop being friends with them but time to respect their choice and to support them in that decision

    It was nothing to do with me offering advice.
    He needs it, but (in his mind) doesnt think I’m the person who should be giving it to him. My opinions mean nothing to him. That is the most disappointing and significant aspect of what I’ve learnt tonight,

    Then you have to accept their choice and be there if they need your support in the future, but not be judgmental if things go wrong

    One thing I learnt from my parents (my father especially) is that at times friends will ask your advice and you will try and give the best advice possible in your opinion. Those friends may not choose to follow the advice you give but deserve the support because they are friends.

    Sometimes they may not be able to ask for advice because of various reasons, but a friend is always a friend

    I wish I could agree with you. Maybe I will at some point in the future and on a different topic, but not on this occasion.
