The below quoted e-mail is going the rounds at present. Do not respond as it is a fake or ‘phishing’ scam.

    Tax Refund Notification

After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity, we have determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of 965.80 GBP. Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 5-7 days in order to process it.

Click the “Refund Me Now” link below and follow the on screen step in order to have us process your request.

    Refund Me Now

Note : You will need to provide a valid bank account in which the funds will be payed to. A refund can be delayed for some reasons, for example submitting invalid records or applying after deadline.

    Best Regards,
    HM Revenue & Customs

Note the slightly off grammar (ending a sentence with a preposition) “…Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 5-7 days in order to process it.” – and “You will need to provide a valid bank account in which the funds will be payed to.”

the “Refund me now” link doesn’t actually go to HMRC – it goes to a site called:”carriephotos.com/albums/misc/btspsa/hmrc/hmrc/refundportal.htm”.

This displays a number of the main bank’s logos and invites you to click on your bank’s logo and then submit all your bank account details (account number, security codes etc).

Bet you can’t guess what the scammers will do to your bank account. (CLUE: It won’t be to deposit money INTO the account).

no offence, but you need to get out more.

You may have a point there toy. However, that said, we do get a number of complaints / queries from members who have ‘innocently’ (= stupidly) clicked a linky and ended up being ripped off.

Think of this stuff as a sort of pubic service !!!
