The only spirits involved are in bottles at these silly gatherings. Why do lights have to be dimmed with candles… as though “spirits” suddenly come out in the dark due to not having sun tan lotion for daytime appearances lol. Some naive people about watching too many horror films. I suppose a haunted house with creaking floorboards and lightning creates a better special affect than a ghost appearing in the royal box at Ascot or floating down wembley pitch during a football match… now that really would be a statement of intent but it’s always a dodgy pipe clanking in a deserted house that may or may not be long lost uncle Rupert banging it with his walking stick.

The ouija board was used by the American Poet James Merrill (son of the banking firm of Merrill Lynch) and his lover, David Jackson, from 1955 to Merrill’s death from AIDS in 1995. Merrill’s vast wealth enabled the two of them to use the board around the world, but especially in Stonington, Connecticut, and in Greece, two of Merrill’s favourite places.

Merrill and Jackson claimed to have contacted a figure from the ancient world, known as Ephraim, and through him were able to chat with departed friends and  family. Apparently the ouija board revealed the transmigration of souls, so that people lived for thousands of years, but in different bodies. Once dead, they had to wait for a suitable body to be vacated before returning.

Jackson learned that Ephraim was actually going to visit them and were due to meet him in Greece (this is form my memory, and not reliable), where he was to learn information of vast import to mankind. Ephraim didn’t show up, though (story of my life when it comes to learning such information).

Oh, well, the ouija board did have some hairy moments, in one of which Jacksons’s hand was badly burned, but whether theyw ere accurate or not, it served to launch one of the great works of late 20th century Western poetry – the Changing Light at Sandover.

Kenty i remember many years ago as a teenager my aunt took me to Spain for a holiday. She booked a day trip to Tangiers . while we were walking around we came across a group of old local people using an Ouija board and were invited to sit and watch. One of them came over and asked would we like a go so my aunt joined in. She was told someone had broke into her home while she was on holiday and told her daughter would have a wonky baby?? On her return her home had been broken into and 5 mths later her daughter gave birth to a disabled baby this is what they must have meant when they said ” wonky”  I wouldnt mess around with the unknown!!

The only spooky thing that i keep experiencing are the numbers 11.11 this has been going on for over 30 years!! it might be when i look at the time- i get 11.11 on receipts- i may get emails at 11.11. My recent one this week was my shopping came to 11.11 !!! spooky lol I tell myself it must be my guardian angel saying hello haha also i keep finding white feathers in the strangest of places.

I do have a few spooky pics that people have sent me. I help run the database for an old disused cemetery, the last burial took place in July 1936 and the cemetery was officially closed. where murdered victims, american sea captains, 100s of  childen from local bluecoat orphanages, we also have one soldier who  served aboard H.M.S Victory with Nelson at Trafalger are all buried here.

A local drama group call shiverpool have been doing ghost walks around this cemetery for some years they have sent me scary pics and stories of ghost walks they have done with tourists.

See if you can spot the ghostly apparition in this pic. Took me a while to find it-hes wearing a roundish hat with a waist jacket and a shoulder bag of some sort. Hes pointing out his arm holding a type of pistol. The pic was taken many years ago. Some might say its camera trickery or a double exposed photo but this part of the cemetery is where we get a lot sightings. Before it was a cemetery it was a quarry hence the reason its sunken. On the walls you can see carvings dating back to 1700s. A few of the carvings are of trident forks, odly enough this corner has many sailors, ship captains buried here.

    That’s really interesting information, Sophia.

Whereabouts is the cemetery? I might visit it when I finally get to Liverpool (only really been once on my own; a second time with parents but I was very young and don’t remember it beyond Lime Street station, which I remember for it’s funny name).

I know, I need specsavers, my eyes are old and weary etc etc but where is the ghost in the photo. Can’t really make one out, though there are a number of funny shadings.

    The Norfolk Mafia..

Reminds me of the movie Amityville. Not sure spelled name right. But men living in it became possessed by the father of family prior who murdered his family. So whoever buying home not told history of house, happened everyone some one moved in to point think house still lays dormant from history…
