Hi all I had a visit Thursday and can’t stop thinking about it.

police guy calls and asks to come in as don’t want talk on doorstep I’ve nothing to hide so in he comes.

he asks about my internet and how many devices etc in home.

well I say what we have and he then asks about other people living with me well I have daughter of 9 and partner.

I showed what devices we have but he doesn’t look to check them or anything just writes down how many devices.

he then ask about any others with access or living I say only us as true.he asks to check house well I take home around and he checks including the shed lol.

he asks if some names are accounts we have facebook which they weren’t and is pretty weird and vague about all, also asks if we go on porn sites too.

we had an issue daughters iPad where 3 times it came up disgusting pictures and said if didn’t pay it would be reported police but each time deleted and this was some months ago.i mentioned this and he seemed know about the scam and it deffinatrly wasn’t to do with that,we’ve also had iTunes fraud but again seemed no interest to him.

after checking for other people in home left and said if wanted more info he’d ring or maybe another fromCID may ring or maybe that was the end it?though to be truthful after left I am more confused than anything as the more I think about it I just don’t really know why came it was all very vague.

    any ideas?

Because its annoyed me I’ve been looking online about by home hub security and was shocked see its not that secure and also that our hubs are used as hotspots too

it seems also from reading that they only get the hub number that’s like traceable not which device posts something. So like if have 10 devices using your hub all are only shown as the hub number not individual devices

    Interesting first post

Fisrt thing to do is phone up the local Police station and check the log to see if the policeman was bogus or not.

The officer had no right to enter your home, or to ask any of those questions.

It uses a techology called Network Address Translation (NAT), the router will assign each device attached to it an internal address. When one of the devices connects to the internet, it connects through the router’s external address. The router then matches incomming packets by using the NAT table.

I tried to explain that as simply as I could, but basically it means that all of the internet use on your router looks like its comming from the same machine (Athough there are some ways you can seperate them, most internet browsers will send out the device’s screen resolution with page requests. But that isn’t very reliable as it is easy to spoof, the browser I use always reports the resolution as 0x0).

The officer concerned should have provided his/her ID & informed you of why they were there – otherwise, why would you allow them into your house? Furthermore, they were certainly not entitled to search/examine any part of your home or property without possession of a Section ** Warrant to search the premises. You should have been provided with the officer’s name & shoulder number & an incident number with the date pertaining, in the event that you might need to request further information. If I were in your position, I would contact your local area constabulary & speak to the Communications team, who will be able to see your telephone number inbound & you will be asked for some simple details, ie: name & address. They should have a record of the attending officer’s name, the reason for the visit & they will subsequently email him/her & ask them to make contact with you. At least this would put your mind at rest – good luck.
