You really are a doom and gloom merchant scep, first the Brexit drama, now this. There’ll be no nuclear war, the “Beloved leaders” ego wouldn’t be able to handle the battering he knows full well they would get from the Yanks. He’s a wannabe keyboard warrior but without the intelligence to turn a laptop on.

I very much hope you’re right. Saddam used to threaten the mother of all battles, but he ended up in a hole wiht a gascooker linked in to f3 chatroom pretending to be a woman. On the other hand, kim what’s his name does take pride in the fact that his grandfather, kim what’s his name senior, was in hiding in caves when the Japanese were occupying the country. My hope is that within the next few days/weeks, you’ll be laughing at me as a scaremonger, and I’ll happily take it.

Wont be laughing about anything, if it’s what you think then it’s what you think. I do honestly think the nutter is just enjoying being in the limelight.

Another issue is many of these characters have a deluded belief in some sort of afterlife so what fear does a nuclear war hold for someone thinking they will be heading to something better after death… these people are the most dangerous of all as they have nothing to lose in their own minds so this nuclear ” deterrent ” is rendered obsolete.

well, that’s certainly true of radical jihadis, and of some right-wing American Christian nuts who think the nuclear catastrophe is going to bring about the ‘rapture’ whereby God will suddenly save them, like the last scenes in lord of the Rings.

Trump and Kim aren’t like that, though.

Mind you, there was a stream of opinion in the late 1940s in the US Congress which held that the Americans should let the Red Army occupy Europe, and then the US could liberate the Continent with A-bombs.!

You say that but Trump has continually stated he believes in God etc so whilst not “radical” may still think in his own mind that death isn’t the end which diminishes any fear of all out nuclear war.

Let’s just hope China will sort this. That’s what Trump is hoping for.

I don’t really think the situation is comparable to the Cuban missile crisis at all, North Korea isn’t the USSR.

The more worrying way in which this is similar to the Cuban missile crisis is to do wiht the corner into which they’re both locked.

When the USSR put missile launching pads in Cuba, the US felt it had to attack if they (the sites) weren’t removed. That was because instead of the half-hour to an hour warning of missiles being launched form Moscow, the missiles from Cuba could reach Disneyland in Florida with only a few minutes warning.

NKorea is boasting that it will soon be able to strike California, and apparently Obama was told that this would happen soon. Trump would rather a nuclear war be fought in Korea than in California. There’s no way out for the US in the medium term, and he seems to have decided to stop it now.

NKorea is faced with an existential threat. If the Beloved Leader gives in and takes his nuclear missiles out, his regime would collapse very quickly. he may go for a deal of an end to sanctions and a lot of US/Chinese aid, but then he would be a puppet of imperialism. maybe he’ll settle for that, and he’s just pretending to be a nut.

Depends on the Beloved Leader n the end.

Worrying reminder – Castro was wanting the USSR to launch a pre-emptive nuclear attack, and denounced Khrushchev, the Soviet leader, for not having cochones (balls) for backing off. Does the beloeved leader have cochones?

    🤔

On a lighter note, I’d like to know if we’re going to go up in a plume of smoke because I plan to decorate the hallway in July. If we are, I won’t bother.

American politicians have to say things like that to secure their own position, especially the right wing ones. I have never seen Trump say anything about God before starting his presidential campaign, but maybe someone can disprove that.

This is illegal in some countries, I know that France for example has a right of oblivion, which requires account deletions.
