so many name changers hard to name them all especially when you dont know who they are half the time also becoming a host is tempting but dont know how long ill be using the site for due to unforseen circumstances and there are so many other things you could charge for instead of membership but im not going to go into detail about these others things until monthly membership charges have been scrapped but you can incorporate alsorts into the site if you know what your doing and how to do it oh well maybe i should make my own site and see where it goes

Monthly charges scrapped ? They were never enforced.

JC has been going for around 16 years jack …. surely thats more food for thought ;-)

ok but i wont pay nearly a fiver a month to chat i can chat for free elsewhere why would i do that bit of a rip of if you ask me should be free to register if you want to incorporate a charge then charge for other things on the site

A cup or two of coffee costs $5/mo. Why not help someone host something which serves as entertainment or a social service?

To me, $5 isn’t much. I realize for me it’s more on account of the low dollar, but that is ok. There isn’t much one can get for that amount these days. I eat out one time and it costs more.

That being said, i wish I could pay it either monthly or annually as a lump sum..
Also, it would be good if someone couldn’t copy the sequence of letters in your name, that way they couldn’t make one change i.e. Chowa or chowa or CHowa – you get the picture – and troll you.

You have to be registered to contribute to the boards anyway. How is paying going to protect anyone? & & & …….. who are the namechangers on the boards you speak of young jack ?

I think he is referring to the chat forum portion of this site – they are frequent and idiotic. Sometimes they threaten people, but they have learned from that behavior and now they just heckle and pick and demean and slander and get away with it.

They leave the room and return and leave and return. Perhaps a cooling off period after doing taht would help? That leaving and coming back is how they get the Block function off of them. It’s sad, really.

Sad little souls (trolls/namehiders) who can’t make it on their own merit, or are inept socially.. It’s sad really.

My points still remain .. more so in the rooms. Registration or no registration true trolls will register multiple ID’s & the main culprits have roaming IP adresses anyway making it very nearly impossible to police.

    People just won’t pay generally.

Interestingly enough has it not occurred to you both that there is NO chat site to my knowledge that has been as sucessful as JC.

Like it or lump it I guess with regard to the nuscience users. ;-)

In regards to paid membership, if you forced all members to pay then it would kill the site overnight, most users would not pay when there are free alternatives available.

As for the guides, I’ve only seen them in the chat forums twice in all the months i’ve been on JC, and they only there for 30 seconds before leaving again. The chat rooms are effectively entirely unmoderated.

Guides can only be on the site so many hours, most have jobs, families and social lives, remember a guides job is unpaid, most guides have agreed with each other the times they will be on the site and in some cases the few guides that are on have to police all the forums and rooms, so they cannot stay in 1 room to chat if all looks OK, hence just quickly popping in and out of a room.  If you have a problem and see a guide come into the room pm them and let them know your concerns, they should then stay around a little longer to resolve the relevant problem.

I personally spend at least 2 hours 3 times a week running the quiz, the only time I am not in there is when I am either on holiday or ill.  I do (behind the scenes) carry on working for the site checking and editing quiz questions for use and this takes up a many hours of my time.  I have been on JC for at least 13 years, and can be found in the quiz room on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9pm.

As Martin said if you want to complain about the guides why not submit the form to become one yourself.

The implication being that people who aren’t guides don’t have any of those things? Regardless, I just asked in forum 2 when the last time anyone saw a chat guide, I got answers of just over a week and a month. Other people didn’t know what a chat guide does, or that they even existed.

As Martin said if you want to complain about the guides why not submit the form to become one yourself.

That isn’t really a very professional attitude, I know that guides don’t get paid, but the site still charges money so complaints should be listened to. And in reply to what Martin said, I’ve done chat room moderation before, I don’t really think I would want to do that again, and I don’t think I would fit in very well here anyway.
