Here is the first pub I ever went into. The Favourite in Hornsey Rise N19. It no longer exists, it was demolished around 1982 ish and replaced by flats. There is an episode of The Professionals where Bodie and Doyle are seen loitering outside. Matt Monro used to perform here in the 60’s as did Peters & Lee, remember them?

    London named dirtiest city

London is Europe’s dirtiest and most expensive city and also has the worst cuisine, according to a poll of travellers.

The UK capital was also considered to have the worst-dressed locals in a survey of 2,376 European travellers.

It was the second year running that London had been voted the dirtiest European city by the TripAdvisor company. The UK capital took the unwanted accolade by a huge margin, with 36 per cent reckoning London was the dirtiest – well ahead of Paris in second place with 9 per cent.

    B-)

    I remember The Favourite,.

also the Alexandra tavern, was it, on Shaftesbury Road, N19? A chair coming through the window as we were sitting peacefully drinking.

I have very fond memories of Waterlow park, and summer walks on my own from Highgate to Hampstead, once to visit John Keats’s house. I had to work out quite a lot of problems on those walks.

Amazing town! I still go there when I can.

    I tell a lie.

    Memory played me wrong.

    It was The Shaftesbury Tavern.

LoL Scep. That made me chuckle. You corrected your self before I could, yes it was the Shaftesbury Tavern, and like The Favourite, it was a rough old boozer. This was the second pub I ever went into. There was a certain rivalry between these 2 pubs which often broke out in inter pub violence, stemming way back to the 40’s or 50’s. The Shaftesbury is still there today.

I have very fond memories of Waterlow park,

So do I 😊 It’s a beautiful little park, well hidden away.

Here is a photo of Lauderdale House which is in Waterlow Park, which was once the home of Nell Gwyn, Charles II’s bit of fluff.
