Such an awful tragedy –  Harrowing scenes on the TV just dreadful .

I can’t but suspect foul play though …. that building it seems was a death trap yet all those people housed there.

Someone has got to take responsibility for this – bet even now government won’t admit the housing crisis needs looking at –

    May those lost RIP xx

    Absolutely, Arc.

Typical of some to question my original post. It’s not party politics, it’s a question of cost-cutting and the nature of the multi-million pound refurbishment. It wasn’t me who was scoring points, nor would I on such a horrible event.

Nobody knows what or why, but there is apparently a sense of anger in the area, and the Estate Group had been sending warnings for a long time.

I lived in one of the poorest estates in Hackney for several years, and remember the contempt expressed by council officials towards you. You were dirt in their eyes, and people were bound together by the need for dignity as much as anything else.

Well, when kids are burned alive like rubbish, those are lives horribly ended.

Let’s hope that, whatever the cause, it will change the approach to safety and the poor response to estate groups when they warn. Hope.

The death toll might be horrible when it finally emerges.

here is a revealing Channel 4 interview with Nick Paget-Brown, the leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council responsible for cladding a tower block with flammable material with a built-in void for feeding air to the fire.

The tenants have been complaining for a long time now about the state of the building after someone received millions o pounds for refurbishing the death-trap. According to one tenant who managed to escape, no matter how much they complained they were met with a deadf ear.

I found this story very moving..I’m sure there will be many more.

A great grandfather who remains missing following the Grenfell Tower blaze reportedly told a friend in a desperate final phone call: “Tell my sons that I love them.“

Tony Disson, 65, was trapped in the bathroom of his 22nd floor flat as the fire ripped through the block in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The father-of-four is said to have had desperate phone conversations with friends and relatives from his flat, during which he said he couldn’t escape because the floor was too hot.

His four sons and other family members have since been searching London hospitals and appealing for any information about their missing relative.

One of his sons, who asked not to be named, published a Facebook post on Wednesday evening that read: “If anyone has seen my dad, Tony Disson could they let us know. My heart goes out to all the people at Grenfell Tower”.

He told The Daily Mirror one of his half-brothers had spoken to his father on the phone during the blaze at around 3am.

“People called my Dad and said, ‘Put a blanket over your head and get out.’ He said he couldn’t as he was in the bathroom and the floor was too hot,” he said.

“A friend then called him at 4am and one of the last things he said was, ‘Tell my sons that I love them’. Nobody was able to contact him after that.

”My dad was well known down here and I have had loads of calls. He had been in the flat for about nine years. He lived alone and was quite happy there.”

Mr Disson, who has three sons, five grandchildren and four grandchildren, with another due to be born soon, had lived in Grenfell Tower for eight years.
