So the swine flu pandemic that we were all sceptical about and made no end of jokes over is eventually underway.
The number of confirmed cases in my town is well into the hundreds with confirmed cases at my work place, my daughters school and my other daughters preschool.
I myself have been in direct contact with at least 4 children last friday who have now been diagnosed with it over the weekend.
Luckily so far the symptoms are no worse than seasonal flu, but still nasty non the less.
So I wondered if this is the same story nationally or whether I am just in a ‘swine flu’ pocket?
6 July, 2009 at 10:21 pm #400481Chances are that you’re in a “swine flu pocket” but no need to make a pig’s ear of it !!!
7 July, 2009 at 5:04 pm #400482I reckon she’s talking tripe
10 July, 2009 at 7:08 pm #400483It’s in my town and some of the nearby towns. People who attended the Glastonbury festival seem to have caught it there.
PS it’s just been reported on BBC that the there’s been the first death in England of a healthy person from swine flu – i.e. someone who had no previous underlying health problem.
11 July, 2009 at 12:04 pm #400484Remind me somebody ….. how many deaths are there in an average year from “ordinary” flu???
11 July, 2009 at 12:09 pm #400485not as many as from Man Flu  …but then again thats death by murder when you guys absolutely annoy the hell out of us!!!!
11 July, 2009 at 1:10 pm #400486In a bad seasonal flu year, there can be around 20,000 extra deaths in the winter linked with influenza, so while every death is a tragedy it should not be a surprise or cause for panic that there have been swine flu fatalities.
What may be alarming some people is that the people who have died so far are young, where as with seasonal flu it is mostly the elderly who succumb.
11 July, 2009 at 4:31 pm #400487It’s probably too early to know what sort of post-viral infections might linger after people have got over the swine flu.
Also, in Argentina, where it’s winter, swine flu has spread very rapidly and the death rate is much higher than anywhere else.
16 July, 2009 at 1:04 pm #4004882 confirmed cases in our local town neither fatal as of yet so maybe u are in a swine flu pocket melody, thats 2 in abt 10,000 pop
17 July, 2009 at 5:46 pm #400489well 4 primary schools in my area were shut last week as 23 cases have been confirmed between them all , my daughters hubby to be is the only member of his family who doesnt have it at the moment, 2 members of staff from my work have it and all have been quarentined in there home and have had medication posted by local gps through there front doors
