I’m not taken with much of the album.

Because the Night is good, but Easter is extremely good.

patti’s long-time boyfriend was the photographer, Robert Mapplethorpe, who produced a series of arresting photographs and videos of her. I like the one showing her peeing into an air vent on top of a New York Hotel, but I couldbn’t find it.

    This one is good.

Can’t say i like the idea of any woman peeing in a photo to be honest. It’s a private thing for both sexes. As i write this, i’m listening to 1979 album: Wave…..what an album! The Patti Smith group had great production values…i mean this was legendary stuff….Not sure if there’ll  ever be a group since that gets this combination of perfection around the art. The production values they had back then will probably never be bettered. Record sleeves could have been much better but that’s another area.

I would assume that any one who interviewed Florence (from Florence and the Machine) would naturally assume that Patti Smith was one of her influences. I can imagine Patti Smith singing Raise it Up…what a classic! But then, in a similar vein….. i can imagine Elvis singing a lot of the songs produced today and it would be a classic.

Well if Robert Mapplethorp weren’t dead, you could have written a letter to him complaining about the breach of privacy.

He also photographed her in the nude and distributed them.

The difference between that and some of the photos whihc used to be thrown around JC can be summed up in one word – consent.

Mapplethorp issued photos of much, much worse things than that!! The cops raided one of his exhibitions. He was a provocateur. So was she.

    Jesus died for somebody’s sins,

    But not mine.

Electrifying start to her best song (apart from possibly Easter). Play it loud.

    Step on her.

Thanks for the comment sceppers……listening to Gone Again album from 1996 at the moment. I’m not sure i really care about Patti Smith much as a person..just a great voice and  can breathe into a mic like no other. Thing is…..a lot of women, perhaps especially in the 70’s..had to rely on Men to tweak their thang…LOL…In my opinion and knowledge, people will remember Patti Smith…..i’m not sure whether any one will remember the group. In a lot of ways…in my opinion of course…many great artists have been restrained or were restrained too far by ” the band”

Not sure what happened to my Gung Ho CD from Patti….not sure i’ll need it as good ole’ tuby is here to remind me…..LOL

It’s an interesting question…….what do you listen to in a piece of music? It’s a multiple myriad question which can not be summed up in a single thought. All i will say at this particular time though……is that regardless of external factors, internal influences, and any other factors not yet considered……..it’s Patty’s voice, tonal range, twang, key and sheer domination of the issue considered i’d have to put her on a par with Elvis…….which reminds me…………………………..

I got this bet on…….any one tell me where Elvis lives and i’ll give you a tenner…(no joke)….see?
