a lot of fear stories around about migrants and refugees..they need to be answered with reasoning, and will be.

This is an especially worrying issue, and weak humour doesn’t wash with me.

Trapper, that’s no answer about the sunni-shia conflict having been around for hundreds of years. This is much mor than that – the UK, Russia, US, Turkey Kurds are turning Syria into a slaughter-zone.It’s never had this effect before – 11 millions people displaced,

The UK is a serious cause of this; we need to help.

You may disbelieve this but there may come a time when we are in need of help – war isn’t just conducted by us with hi-tech weapons against poor people who can’t fight back, and we may be talking about something a lot more serious than a few people on UK streets being killed. They’re ordinary people fleeing a war-zone; let’s hope we don’t join them at some point.

Such a simple sollution said in so few words….if only it were that simple in practice
Remember the years and years of jokes about Germans…often on comedy shows such as Fawlty Towers too…I remember growing up not liking Germans because lots of others didnt like them….this was before I realised I had a brain and could form my own opinions….
Ironically my youngest loves everything about German…then language…the culture…he wants to do his work placement in Germany….he also joked or was serious about marrying a German girl and gave me 2 german names for his kids….was a bit of banter of course…I did point out that the German women dont shave their armpits

Ms K – you’ve often said that you don’t have any learning, but whether I’m agreeing with you or having sharp disagreements, one thing I know you have is a good brain.

Prejudice is deeply ingrained, and expresses itself in jokes more than any other form. Bernard Manning never picked up on this – he always tried to justify his humour by saying it was aimed at PC. I hate PC too – a moral finger-wagging which doesn’t wash. And the humour can be so outrageous that it makes people laugh.

But prejudice is mainly pushed and made acceptable through the sort of jokes made by Manning. I don’t care whether women or Asians laugh at them. They justify racial violence, whatever manning thought – verbal as much as physical, often aimed at the smallest kids in playgrounds, kids so small that they have no clue as to how to defend themselves.

That was always aimed at blacks and Asians when I was younger. Now it’s aimed at ‘immigrants, migrants, refugees – all coming to take away our houses and jobs. A real problem turned into hatred and nasty jokes.

It’s not going unchallenged while I’m here

Humour is also a release, to deviate from the seriousness or horror, isn’t that what the satirical Punch attempted during WW1, gallows humour.
