This poor woman from Saudi is being treated appallingly. These people live in the dark ages. After all she has been through, she is the one being punished!!
    100 lashes

Leaving aside the more hysterical comments in the “Daily Fascist” …. the last line was most interesting:

“They (Saudi women that is) are also banned from going out in public in the company of men other than male relatives.”

So this 23 year old “single woman” who lives in a secular society where these rules apply, knowingly accepts a lift from a bloke in a car (who was a complete stranger to her …. not a relative) and at night as well and the “Daily Fascist” wonders why she was punished.

Pretty obvious I’d have thought – she broke the law …. that’s why !!!

Yes maybe she did break one of their draconian rules, but the poor woman was raped!! Yet she,s being punished??? What about the bastards who raped her, what do they get then? A pat on the back and a pint down the pub??

The law is the law i guess even if the law is an ass in this case

I remember, from a similar “rape” issue that occurred in Pakistan a while ago and which was discussed at length on these boards, that for a female to claim “rape” (under THEIR law) she had to provide FOUR witnesses to the event.

Given that, in some cases, a woman’s unsupported word under OUR laws to gain a conviction for rape, this might seem somewhat unfair when judged by OUR standards.

However, we have to take into account that in Saudi, women are most definitely regarded as second class citizens with extremely limited ‘rights’. OK you may think that this is unfair but nevertheless that is the law in Saudi whatever we might feel about it.

The woman clearly broke their laws and quite rightly she will receive 100 lashes. After all, given her condition, she can hardly deny that she committed “adultery” – acording to Saudi law. She’s lucky that they didn’t sentence her to be publicly stoned to death.

Sorry to have to, once again, play the Devil’s advocate. This entire matter is emotive because of the allegation (made by her) that she was raped (by four men).

If there was no rape allegation and it was simply that she had gone out after dark; got into a car driven by a man that she didn’t know (contrary to local law) ; spent the night having intercourse with him and / or his mates (again contrary to local law); chances are that very few eyebrows would be raised if the Saudi Courts punished her.

I’m sure she wasn’t the first to be punished for this “crime” and she won’t be the last either. It certainly wouldn’t have made the headlines in the “Daily Fascist” without the rape allegation being a part of the equation.

The whole rape thing came about when it transpired that she was pregnant. so what evidence is there that she was actually raped? As far as Saudi law is concerned – none whatsoever. Simply the unsupported word of a female and an allegation made some long time after the alleged offences took place.

You forgot to mention that she was found guilty of adultery although she was unmarried

Sorry, I thought that this was completely self-evident – what with her being both pregnant and unmarried. Indeed the central thrust of the Media story was that she was being imprisoned and lashed following her conviction for adultery.

I apologise if I wrongly assumed that you realised this.
