My son has decided to buy one, I don’t know why, he has a ps3, ps2, psp, XBox  Anyway, he can’t get it working on X Box live.

Does anyone have a clue on how to do this, I don’t.

    Does he need a router?

Sorry we mostly do computers on here.

All I can do is give you a link.

You are up your own arse at times, it is to do with the internet, we need to link the x box up with it.

Why am I even entertaining a pummer?

Well if you took time to look around the site, you could have found the answer, but your a bit thick !!!

    #378908

No, I’m not thick, I was looking for a quick solution. I don’t understand all the jargon, but I have put your link into my favourites for my son to have a browse through later. Thanks for your help.

DOA stop being so rhetorical and a drama queen and help sian out you old bag of wind!

    Sian,

The link does suggest you need a router with a certain grade of ”firmware” to allow the xbox to run over the net.

Presumably for the online gaming facility

Cant say a lot more as do not have an Xbox or a landline (not living in a caravan either) Just use mobiles and get my ISP from mobile phone masts instead of a box on the wall……….convenient.

    regards

    D.

Thanks Dibbs, I will let my son know later, he’s a pain, keeps buying all these gaming systems without looking up what is required to run the ruddy thing.

I’m an old biddy which needs no more than access to email

    No problem,

Be greatful he’s into boxes with circuitry………..I would (not beer and wo****)

You wait till he starts bringing back women to stay the night and leaves you a note out asking what time he wants breakfast delivered!

    The router thing all I can add is;

When I first bought a new netgear router my ISP (called F2S) had a free technical helpline which was good, They via a remote link looked at the link and told me my why it was failing

    1. firstly the cable span to the house from the pilon was old (copper cable) Now that’s not enough for me as a BT customer who was paying BT to get them to change it because my phone was working satisfactory.

I kept chipping away at the ISP and they got BT to come around and change the cable span to the house (they were each others customers) I only ever paid BT for a working line and F2S for a service added to that line there’s a contractural abyss there!

Do not fall into the trap of sorry your a BT customer and your ISP will not discuss any whats or whyfores about the account.

It can happen, Sales of goods act falls swiftly by the wayside as your buying a service not goods (forget the hardware side of things at this stage aka router)

    Next item try and get a router that is;

configuration free; I.e it does itself or self learns

This again when I left F2S and tried demon B/Band I fell foul of & it was a waste of time they pulled this little stroke on me

    1. You have a package where a router is extra (goodo supply me one)
    2. You need to upgrade to the dearer service (thats not what is says here in your terms and conditions)
    3. Call our support helpline sir (think of the cost)
    4. Man offers to sell me router after a long call and at well over the top cost
    5. After several attempts to get the router configuration from Demon for my existing unit I have an indian woman from the other side of the world reading the settings from my router out to me down a crackly phone line (wholly unsatisfactory language barrier)

I used the Demon service for three weeks wrote them a carstrating letter and get money back, They then (As I have the right to do) got really shirty when I changed my landline number and threw them away just as quickly as they arrived, They’l threaten everything including putting lit matches under your nails but tell them they did not do as they had promised (where’s there customer commitment on their part)

I dropped the netgear router and purchased a D-Link unit, Much the same appearance wise and it took a while to get configured, But that’s due to lack of knowledge from ISP’s not the equipment.

They’l all suck your money away leaving you on the end of a phone and tell you a few buttons to press from a foreign country it’s in there best interests to make money!

Try and get an ISP with free set up and free customer support or one thats local rate calls for the whole system set up.

Routers come in all shapes and sizes, Some can handle more info some have better firmware and true firewalls

I’m sure guidance will be offered!

    Hmmm……

I would have just got a usb wireless plug in from one of the many mobile phone companys and save myself all the trouble.
