So this effectively “stops” the search campaign for maddie, doesnt it. :?
I suspect that very very sadly the only answer is “Yes”. I think that most people believe that poor little Maddie (who is the REAL victim in all this) is actually dead.
The current suggestion is that the holy & self-righteous McCanns have some form of direct knowledge of this and their constant exhortations to keep on searching for Maddie (alive) is nothing more than a grossly cynical attempt to manipulate the Media and turn the spotlight away from their own alleged involvement.
To pick up on your other point Sharon (“Why did they [the Police] announce a month ago they had made “significant findings”) ….. as I understand it they discovered the blood and ”other ” stuff in the McCann’s hire car as well as forensic traces of a dead body having been in their apartment. However, the DNA results at that stage had not been received from the British labs.
It was only when the preliminary DNA evidence was made available and was presumably considered in the light of all the other evidence collected to date, that the police made their move.
That said … I haven’t read anywhere that the blood in the McCann’s hire car was ACTUALLY that of Maddie (i.e. proved by DNA profiling). It has been really strongly hinted at but the police haven’t made that specific statement.
However, it is reasonable to assume under the circumstances that they do have strong forensic (and other) evidence such that they are prepared to question BOTH McCanns for many many hours, in the full Media spotlight, and to formally announce to the world that they BOTH are now officially suspects.
I fully accept that there is a long way to go and that there are numerous facts of which we are totally unaware ….. but …. it also seems to me that the theory of a mystery and wholly unseen kidnapper is beginning to look less and less likely.
Ah right. If this Forensic Evidence was so strong and watertight then why havent they been charged yet? Tabloid talk, and gossip.

Yes you’re right, self-evidently I am speculating – as indeed is everybody else who comments.
However, surely this is one of the joys of debate and of this type of ‘speculation’. After all if we waited for the certainty of a result on this (or other) matters, then it would be pretty pointless saying anything other than making bald factual announcements. Swapping opinions and discussing/debating is after all the essence of this type of message board eh?
BTW – I’ve often wondered why it is that the sainted and holy Mother McCann has such a hard expressionless look on her face all the time. She contrives to show no emotion at all
whatever the situation.Could it be that she is cold and heartless inside as well????
Yes. I was a bit drunk when I wrote that. Yes everyones entitiled to their opinion mate.
Even if that opinion is totally wild speculation, and a frenzied, salavating mob  trying to tear apart these people, and their characters. Also adding sarcastic comments and bestowing Saint Status on em.
Dont ya just love Democracy. :D  I do.8 September, 2007 at 10:03 am #286190@forumhostpb wrote:
Yes BM … perhaps it is a bit early to say “told you so” and yes they are innocent until proven guilty.
However, when all were initially taking the view that the McCanns were the innocent victims of a heinous crime and posting messages expressing their sympathy, I chose the alternative view that they were far more involved in the ‘disappearance’ of Maddie than they were at first saying.
Fortunately (for me) there were a few that very quietly agreed with this view so I didn’t get the usual beating that one expects when failing to publicly grieve for a stranger. It now seems that (at last) both the police and the world’s Media have come round to this same view.
Every time that anybody (police, Media etc etc) tried to even hint at the McCann’s personal responsibility for Maddie’s demise, they immediatly went into full damage limitation mode and issued reams of press releases demanding that the Media focus remained on the search for Maddie.
Looking back on this, it seems clear to me (and others) that they were desperate to prevent their part in all this being questioned. Given the current situation when both of them are now declared formal suspects, you can see how clever their strategy was …. it terms of deflecting attention away from their own alleged involvement.
Do you suppose that their proposed libel action against the Portuguese press will now go ahead???? It’s going to be pretty difficult for them to win, against the background of suspicion about their guilt.
Still jumping to your conclusions, and forming your own theories. Nothing has been confirmed. Lets wait and see what happens.
8 September, 2007 at 12:45 am #286187Yours is dyed Sharon. Yours eyebrows are dark.
8 September, 2007 at 12:18 am #286184It isnt our trusted British Police either. It’s greasy haired Portugese Police, who are totally inefecient.
8 September, 2007 at 12:14 am #286182As i said Dude nothings set in stone. These people are only witnesses, suspected of a crime. They havent been charged yet, and even if they have they are innocent until proven guilty.
We are a Democracy after all. :wink:7 September, 2007 at 11:58 pm #286177@forumhostpb wrote:
Well, whilst it is tempting to say “told you so” ….
However, it certainly seems that the Portuguese police must have SOMETHING for them to question the sainted Mother McCann for 12 hours or so. This is hardly the way you would treat a genuinly distraught mother who was an entirely innocent victim of a ‘stranger’ kidnapping.
I cannot profess to have any sort of theory as to how blood, APPARENTLY belonging to Maddie, came to be found in the McCann’s hire car ….. no doubt the details of this will emerge as time goes on.
The latest news report is that the police have offered the sainted Mother McCann what amounts to a plea bargain. Put your hands up to complicity in either the death of Maddie or the disposal of her body later on, and things will go easy for you. We wil guarantee you a maximum of 1-2 years jail.
She has allegedly refused this offer. Mind you with all her pious pleadings over the last few months in front of the world’s Media …. it would be a bit difficult for her if she reneged on this and admitted any involvement.
After all, what would she then say to her new best friend, the Pope?????
I wonder what will happen to the millions of pounds that has been donated to the McCanns by the public etc over the months???? If she is actually charged and convicted …. I wonder how stupid the celebs that supported her will feel.
And now for a final ”killer” bit of cynicism >>>>>>>
Thank goodness that Princess Diana is dead because if she was still alive I’ll bet she couldn’t have resisted being involved with the McCanns and sharing the glare of the Media spotlight.
I wouldent play the told you so card so early dude.
7 September, 2007 at 11:54 pm #286176This was too be expected Mary Doll, after Kate was declared a well whatever it’s called.
7 September, 2007 at 7:00 pm #286167The last part of your post seems a bit far fetched and unlikely.
I agree though that were still no further to finding the truth. Gonna have to wait, and see what forensic “evidence” there is.
I still cant see it. These are people who have been in the Media Spotlight since the day their Daughter vanished. This is a body were talking about. It’s not an easy thing to dispose of especially with a Media Circus camped around you.
This would have only left a few hours for them to bury a Body, concoct a story, and then to face the World , and tell the world that their Daughter had been taken, whilst holding it together knowing that they’d accidentely killed their Daughter.
No I still dont believe it.7 September, 2007 at 2:40 am #286555I agree with this.
In the past these scumbags just fought amongst themselves. They had respect for the elderly. Modern scumbags/neds/chavs have no respect for anything or anyone.
Ya, it’s shocking that some wee scumbag could get 10 years for taking somones life, and get out still a young man with there life ahead of them.
Longer prison sentances wont happen, since they want them out of overpopluated prisons. Dunno what the answer is.
