13 April, 2008 at 10:11 pm #325428Lol Sharon
When my sons partner rang me and told me on the Tuesday morning that she’d decided on a home birth I thought, in honesty,,,,,,OMFG!!,,,,knowing her pain threshhold wasn’t so hot I thought it just wasn’t going to work.
During the Tuesday afternoon and evening though, I was back and forth from her place to mine, (they only live round the corner to me),,,,,,I came home at around 8pm for something to eat and to have a rest. I slept for a while, went back around 1am……at 3am,,,,,I drove to the local hospital to get more entinox for her,,,,,she was running out,,,,,poor lil cow ended up going around 40 minutes with nothing, and in strong labour, first time hospital had given me wrong thing, oxygen instead of entinox, so back I went again,,,,,,I think I broke all land speed records lol,,,,,went through every red light thinking oh hell, if I get stopped they’ll understand i’m sure lol, I might even get an escort lol.
I got back anyway with the entinox, she had couple of puffs and started to push, and our little Logan Elizabeth was delivered, 3.42, 20th February, and not that i’m biased you understand, but she’s gorgeous lol.
As for Jo, from thinking that she wouldn’t cope, having a home delivery, with the pain n everything, I couldn’t have been more proud of her, she was amazing. :)

Christina Rossetti was the named poet I had to study when I did my GCSE and A Level English a few years ago Poli.
One of hers that we had to study and analyse was one called ‘Goblin Market’,,,,,,,,,sheeesh  quite a challenge, but enjoyed it none the less :)
That one though, always stuck in my mind,,,,,,,very emotive isn’t it.

Christina Rossetti 1783 – 1854
Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day.
You tell me of our future that you plann’d:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.12 April, 2008 at 9:25 am #324966@tinks wrote:
What an insult to the servicemen who train for 4 years to earn their wings……….and along comes Prince William and and qualifies in 4 months.
Shame on you MOD for wasting money on him. We all know his training will have been a waste of time and money. It would have been better spent on appropriate clothing and equipment for the men and women out in Iraq and Afghanistan……….could have saved a few lives!!
What was his medal for I wonder? What could he have possibly have done in 4 months to earn that???
He’s off to the RN now to waste some more money.
Not in my name

I think the NHS is in a deep crisis. It is such a shame, as there are some very very good clinicians and nurses working very hard to try and keep the standards high. It has been on a downward slide for 20 years I think, and god knows what will fix it now.
Too many chiefs and not enough injuns
9 April, 2008 at 4:39 pm #322589Arrests … Shannon Matthews
A pal said: “Karen is terrified of going to jail and that she will never be allowed to see Shannon again.
“Her biggest fears are being locked in a cell — and also how Shannon will react.”
Considering this child has already said that she’d rather stay with her foster parents and her new kitten. I think it’s pretty clear how she’s already reacted. I hope that this evil scumbag is never allowed to see her daughter again, she doesn’t deserve children.
As for being feaful of being in a cell, yea I just bet she is, i’m sure she’s one of those who, when child molesters have been sent to prison, hoped that other inmates of the penal system, get their hands on them, is this what she’s so afraid of, serves her right  evil cow!
9 April, 2008 at 1:01 pm #324356I really do hope this time it works for you Mary and that your knee improves.
I do know what you mean about the ”cleaners” When my mum was in there last year, the standard of cleanliness was appalling, and this was / is a brand new hospital!!, it’d only been open 5 weeks or so, when she went in there.
I watched a nurse one day, cleaning and feeding a patient, in a bay opposite the room my mum was in, she was sleeping and I sat and watched this nurse. The patient, a man in his 50’s was suffering full on dementia, I thought it was so tragic given his age, but,,,,,when she’d finished with him,,,,,,she walked across to mums room, and she was in a room on her own because she had MRSA, and was going to clean and change her. I would’nt have been surprised if they’d heard me in the lobby, I let rip, all hell broke loose. Much as I sympathised with the patient before, it wasn’t his fault he was in that condition, but she had cleaned him, fed him and had then attempted to come into mums room, and at no point, had I seen her even wash her hands.
I totally agree with you Mary, get rid of the pencil pushers and clip board carriers and bring back the matron.
Last night, when I was at the hospital waiting to see my consultant, I was wishing i’d had a camera phone. In the waiting area was one of these drinks fountains, had I been rasping and dying of thirst I wouldn’t have had a drink from it, it was absolutely filthy, and I mean filthy in every sense of the word. Had I had a camera phone I would have taken a picture of it and sent it to the newspapers to publish.
It’s no wonder MRSA and C’DIFF are alive and well in most of our hospitals
