One segment, near the end, really stood out for me;
America has a gun problem because so many Americans are deceived by so many illusions about what a gun will do for them, their family, their world. They imagine a gun as the guardian of their home and loved ones, rather than the standing invitation to harm, loss, and grief it so much more often proves to be.
P.S. After chatting with you about this subject I understand a bit more that your country will never rid itself of guns and it will always be faced with thousands and millions of people who experience gun violence. I guess that’s what you call culture.

Was it trump who made the deal with the taliban and excluded the Afghan government? Was it trump who invited the taliban to Camp David? Was it trump who wanted to get all your troops out BEFORE he left office and the generals stopped him?. That was trump’s plan and would have been a royal fu ck up the like of which the world has never seen before…..
The majority of the few Americans (100?) who are still in Afghanistan have chosen to stay there for any number of reasons such as dual-nationality or their vital NGO work. But hey, it only takes one American remaining to rile up the right wing media.
Extricating yourself from a war that you’ve lost, underpinned by a fuc ked up deal was always going to be a filthy business. In your world, trump is blameless and Biden is the bad boy…. NO MATTER WHAT! Let’s face it Linda, your country’s politics is fuc ked just like many western democracies but would you prefer a Chinese or Russian model? Oh, Sorry…..you DID have that for 4 years. Tell you what then Linda. I’ll save my sympathy for the poor kids whose parents died on them because they were not vaccinated.
A frightening number of Americans are a product of the media that they take in and yes fishy, the media IS their culture. Ok, we all are to some extent but the USA takes the Gold Medal in the extremes of media one can choose from and it’s all about audience ratings and fuc king profit. If Murdoch FOX doesn’t say what the audience wants to hear then they flood to Newsmax or OAN and they’ll keep them happy. SO FOX has to be even more extreme to get the suckers back.
Immigration is always the whipping boy for the far right. I mean, who else is there to blame ?
Actually, I really feel sorry for Linda, having to fight to understand the actual truth day in and day out.

In the wake of the horrific mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, it occurs to me that, when it comes to guns, the United States collectively behaves in a way that mimics an addict in denial. Anybody familiar with 12-step recovery programs knows that the entire effort to manage a behavior or dependence on a substance that has gotten out of control is predicated on the ability to acknowledge that there is a problem in the first place. Americans in general — and Republicans in particular — refuse to admit that there is a gun problem.
