You know I am not too sure what to say about this case.

He wasn’t a sex attacker, he didn’t have millions for pictures of children on his computer, and all he was doing was looking at a few web sites.

The main problem with all laptops is simple one.

You drop them, their f u c k e d.

I would never dream of spending £700 on a laptop.

First their processors are not that good, they all run on shared ram and they are out of date in about 18 months.

There ok for the price, there the same has all the others.

They come with combo cd/dvd and the batteries are ok.

Try and get one with a 1gb of ram and a dual processor.

Look it was a good plan but someone grassed.

We would have been in and out in 45 mins tops, with pens, forms and 2 second class stamps, but the old bill turn-up and started with the shooters.

Pb this is a system resource problem, how is over clocking your processor going to help?

I did have a real look at ms office 07 in the last few days, we have a copy in the office for test and it’s a “f-u-c-k off big” program.

It’s clear that the developers intended it to run on windows vista, not xp.

I take your point abour cheap RAM DOA but I don’t think that £200+ per GB is going to give me an enormous step increase in throughput compared with spendind around £50-£60 per GB. These ramsticks will still allow around 6.4GB/s data transfer rate which is plenty fast enough.

What you have all forgotten is that MS test engineers try their new products on the latest computers.

Like most software engineers they are give the best computers with the best and most update hard ware.

When you release a new produced, you only test on a few computers; it would be impossible to test it on all configs.

It’s a combination of factors not just the ram.

Your hard drive and cache play major parts too.

If you put 4gb of ram in the machine, it will still seem a bit slow loading.

MS office does need a lot of power to run it well.

The only place ms office works well on servers, the home computers are always a bit underpowered for it.

Every thing you have suggested has been tried.

Windows insisted on installing the same drivers for this laptop cd/dvd combi drive.

The drive was removed last night and after 30 mins re-stalled.

Today it was removed and placed in another laptop and worked fine.
