Let me try and answer this in simple terms.
There are 2 kinds of “widow”
First widow is someone who hubby/wifely has die due to accident or illness.
Second widow is someone who has lost a hubby/wifely who was serving in the Arm forces or thru a act of war such has air bombing, but not a act of terrorism.
The pensions are paid at different levels, the Widows war pension has always been paid at a higher rate.
The original “war widows pension” goes back to a time when women didn’t work full time. Whether you was 19 or 99 the rate was the same and paid for life.
The “widows pension” was more modern in its out look and reflects today’s views on working women and is paid at a lower rate. They feel at some point you will return to the work force.
I hope that clears it up for you.
21 July, 2008 at 6:34 pm #356705I think the case you should be looking at is the “war widows pension”.
Back in the 70’s the government try to standerize widows pension, it was to paid at a lower rate for everyone, including “war widows”.
The action failed and the Law lords ruling now apply to anyone claiming “state benefit without a changed of personal circumstances.”
The government can try and make any law it likes, but if the Law lords, don’t it don’t happen.
20 July, 2008 at 11:17 am #355798Something like “round up”” or “weedol” should stop it.
You should be cutting this plant back in spring, its a nasty one and will take over your garden.
Your better off removing it and replanting it in a pot or a bin to keep its size down.
20 July, 2008 at 10:23 am #351875From what I do remmber of this stuff, its the lorrys and other road uses that couse the problems with it.
And you need to remmber it was 1982, the guys I was working with did think it was sh1t.
There was a lot of problems with it.
I can’t see why Virgin are making so much fuss about using it, its been in use for the last 25 years and on most home phone lines, its only the bit from your house to the exchange box that is copper.
I do think that most people will have 64mb broadband in 5 years, wither they use copper or fiber optics.
And if the copper system was so cra p why have Vingin been using “legal means “to try and access BT net work?
19 July, 2008 at 1:17 pm #351871For some of us “fibre optics” nothing new.
I remember doing my work exspearants at school with BT and replacing copper with fibre optics and new telephone exchanges .
That was few years ago…………
Is it any better than copper? …………. Well yes it is but not for the reasons you may think.
Its far easier for company’s to lay in the street.
Cheaper to buy
And the cables smaller than copper.
If you could through it, no one dies.
But it is glass.
Anyone with a car window screen will tell you how easier to chip and the cables are the same.
The main problem is, being glass it does chip, it will crack and it’s a sod to fault find.
If you have some 5 year old kicking the hell out of a copper cable it still works, you can’t say the same about fibre optics cable.
18 July, 2008 at 2:12 pm #355137We had to rip them all out of our vans, they are useless, much like ugo !!!
18 July, 2008 at 10:33 am #355123The best way to save money is to lose the car and walk more.
You can always save on hot water bills by only using what you need and not having store hot water like a cycliner in your airing cubbord.
The best way to save on water bills for single people or people without kids is a water meter.
If you do have kids and a water meter, drop me a line and I will “fix it” for you for £20 !!!!!!
Other ways of saving money on household bills is moan like hell at your engy companys and say the meters are f u c k e d.
It will take them 6 months to look at it and they always find something wrong with them, so you always get something back.
Always pay cash for anything and ask for a discount.
Don’t use criedit cards.
When you are shopping always look at the prices, never buy meat from a supper maket, they are ripping you off. Find a meat market and buy in bulk. A 200 kg cow only sells for £50, so why Asda are asking for £3 per kg for beef is unbleaveable.
Always shop around and stalk a few “doleys” see where they shop.
Remmber if its for you, you can aford……… if its for the wife and kids you can’t !!!!!
17 July, 2008 at 3:00 pm #355074That sounds like all of my “work focer”
You miss out “foul mouthed Mrs” and pit bull dog !!!!! ( You sleep with one and other cooks)
What is wrong with having a 12 foot tv? I don’t think its wrong for anyone who is singel and earning less than £300 per week to be on benefits.
We don’t set the benfit levels, just pay the tax.
But you need to see this new law for what it is…………
“chav” is just has bad or worst than “nigger”, “packey” or”PB”
Its only use for people of one colour or back ground, so it should be ban.
17 July, 2008 at 10:32 am #354684I can’t understand why anyone would buy a second hand laptop in the first place.
You can buy a new one for less than £300 or get a free one from most moble phone companys.
But if you do need computer software and your computer is off line, you can always use one of the many internet caffe’s to down load it onto a cd and install from there.
If any of you do buy a second hand computer, pls remmber you need to “low level format the hard drives” and re install all software.
I do think its better to bin the old hard drive and buy a new one.
You don’t know what the computer has been use for or by who.
But with most computers being out of dated, (mins after being taken out of the box), you are always better buying a new one.
Never buy a second hand computers, you will spend hours sorting them out, only to find something else that needs replacing.
