There are many reasons I don’t like British Gas, but I think the main one is, they are always first to put there prices up.
I would never use them.
Dishwashers……..Its one of those energy tests we give the trainees to do.
We give them 4 old dishwashers to install and then calculate the running costs verse washing by hand. Its always a lot of fun for them and they always find out that washing by hand is the most expensive way to clean your plates.
Will pop the charts up for you if you like. If you shop around you can pick one up second hand for less than £100, (don’t use them silly tablets in them, there useless)
Don’t buy a calor gas room heater prettypink, you can’t use them in houses (illegal) and you are putting your family at risk from co2 poisoning.

And use a few of them to make sure you are get the best deal. Don’t sign up to day, print off their offers and sleep on it.
Make sure you know what your signing up for. READ THE SMALL PRINT !!!!
2 October, 2008 at 1:45 pm #377085Hmmm…….
Are we talking about the same people who send you a letter when your 1p over drawn and then charge you £30 for it?
The same people who refused bank accounts for 30% of the UK?
Those nice people who give you 2% interest on your current account then lend it out to others using credit cards at 27% ?
2 October, 2008 at 1:36 pm #377117We did about 7.5k of work for them and they only paid about £1800 for the work.
The grant cover most of it.
Its all down to you and how much you are willing to look around. There are grants not only from your local councils, but from the EEC and other sources for “green” home heating and hot water.
2 October, 2008 at 1:29 pm #377083Ok your argument is that if it don’t make money, shut it down?
So where would you like to start? The police?
I can’t remember the last time the police made any cash for the government, but I could be wrong.
The point you seem to be missing is:
What public service do the banks perform? How can you justify making every man women and child in the UK pay £50 each to bale out the banks?
If you was running your own business, made a loss, would the nice people in the government step in and help you out?
Would they foook!!
The inland revenue would be the first one with there hands out grabbing all they could.
2 October, 2008 at 1:14 pm #377115Yesssssssssssss………….
But that’s only “warm front” and I think its a bit of a waste of time and money. Its only like for like replacements. There are other programs around you know !!!!!
We fitted a ground pump, under floor heating and other stuff for someone outside Crawley in March and they got a 75% grant for the work.
I don’t think they got any benefits, unless them 2 BMW in their double garage are mobility scooters. Maybe that swimming pool was for local school to use?
2 October, 2008 at 1:00 pm #377113OOOOOooooooo
How wrong you are Peter
2 October, 2008 at 12:56 pm #377111Right had a look round and you are paying about £150 per year more than you need too.
On my housing heating chart, (even with the gas price increase) your paying 30% too much.
Look for a duel flue supplier (gas and electric) for the best deal.
2 October, 2008 at 12:38 pm #377109Cath lose British Gas now.
Get a reading, pay your bill up to date and stop using them.
2 October, 2008 at 12:36 pm #377108Well “pete”, I can tell you how to cut your home heating costs down to about £20 per month.
I can tell you how to find grants to pay for it.
But I can’t be bovver !!!!!
