sceptical guy replied to the topic What was your first alcoholic beverage? in the forum Chat forum three boards 7 years, 7 months ago
Well, my first drink was when I was 18, too.
It was just beer.
I was still at school, and had gone out for a night with schoolmates.
I wasn’t sick because I hadn’t had too much.
But I still remember being incredibly merry, and giggling all the time, while my parents looked on with the proud smile of watching their eldest child being mildly…[Read more]

Funny you should say that, Ms M.
I too have noticed a huge amount of unread material..like deserts of vast eternity.
But my reaction goes beyond love.
You see, I had an awful dream that I’d read them all, and that I was trapped into an ocean of bland messages.
Really, it was awful. many, many messages one after another, rarely attracting a…[Read more]

I actually, genuinely think it’s to do with arrested development.
The guy has a juvenile obsession with Rocky films and men fighting each other, a genuine sign of some sort of inadequate.
What bothers me is Martin’s obvious decision to allow the boards to become like the locker-room of rugger-bugger talk.
QE’s misogyny is totally uninhibited.…[Read more]

Linda, I would take Sophia’s wise advice and not get trapped on this excuse for a man’s level of debate.
It’s an old trick for people who are unable to present a decent argument. Turn it into a demeaning insult, and stick with it. No matter how the victim tries to defend him or her self, you’re caught on their level of debate.

I was born into a social class that was not taught the value of reading.
My parents tried to counter this.
Books – both fiction and nonfiction – helped me escape into an interesting world with interesting people.
I think we read all sorts of books, high-brow to low-brow.
I’ve always, always, tried to reach the limits of my understanding, so my…[Read more]

I have absolute sympathy with Ms M, I think it’s done deliberately, but Hugs is right – mister q hasn’t actually broken any rules, and I really can’t see Martin doing anything about it.
It then becomes a question of ignoring him as much as possible.
If people get very interested in a topic – and that does happen – then there’s very…[Read more]

It’s the sheer number of posts which don’t even ask for a genuine response. Large numbers every day about nothing at all, driving out the other posts from the Active Discussions list.

Have we ever really known happiness?

Now I’ve not met many of these in my life, but those I have met seem to fit the characters in this movie by Terence Davies, Distant Voices, Still Lives.
They are tough as nails, sharp as a Stanley knife, and big soppy softies – all in one person.
I haven’t met that many (though there are a few in jc), but am I wrong?

Q, are you totally unable to see just how
banal
is that saying, like all your wise sayings?
There’s no other word to describe it – it’s not boring, it’s just banal.
Compare with the sayings of someone who’s really thought about life. Isak Dinesen (real name, Karen Blixen, who was given syphilis as a special treat by her husband) – once said…[Read more]

I remember a story of someone whose job it was to mass produce Blackpool rock.
he was so bored that he wrote Fuck Off in the middle, instead of Blackpool Rock. It went on for half a mile of rock before someone noticed.
Now I bet those sticks are worth their weight in gold.

I have information that Martin is on the run from the FBI for trolling his own website.
I think that reading mister q’s jokes really pushed him to the edge.
