Drac… It isn’t easy for some not to care what others think, especially when its your peers that you are surrounded with. The whole point about bullying is that the bullies prey on those they perceive as weaker and when it is persistent it can be very difficult to ignore

There are underlying reasons why some people are ‘weaker’ than others, and that is something that can be fixed with the proper treatment.

No, the horse and rider work as a team.

Boxing probably would have been a better example, as the coach and the boxer interact more directly during the match than in tennis.

To be honest, at the end of the day, no bully = no death, no matter what you say… If that kid was left alone to live his life he would be alive today no matter what way you like to twist things around

I don’t see how you can come to this conclusion. He wouldn’t have commited suicide at that exact time, sure. But he may have at a later date due to exam pressure, or any other number of reasons. Or he may never have done as you suggested. It’s impossible to predict what would happen if there were undelying mental health issues.

No, the horse responds to specific aids given by the rider, it responds to shifts of weight and physical touches, although I concede it is possible to train them to perform riderless. Still requires skill from the trainer.

If you apply this logic to tennis then it would seems that the coach should be given awards, not the player?

Sorry to interrupt but can I just point out that the horse doesn’t do all the work. There is a lot of skill and training involved on the riders part. The horse “performs” if you like but it requires years of training and dedication.

Yeah, but a horse could potentially perform all the tasks required of it without having a rider at all (at the time of the event, obviously it has to be trained still).

We’ve seen participants ridiculed for having the audacity to have the muscles required to be world class athletes, criticised for wearing too much clothing in a hijab or not enough in a bikini.

Wearing a hijab would limit your hearing and peripheral vision anyone who wears one would be handicaping themselves compared to other competitors.

as well as spark controversy for mentioning how menstruation affects their performance.

Are you trying to claim that it doesn’t effect performance?

Most recently, an athlete’s boyfriend’s decision to propose to her when she was fresh off the winners’ podium sparked think pieces around the world as spectators flocked to ponder whether this was a romantic gesture or a sexist sign of male dominance.

Proposing is a sign of male dominance?

    What?

British children in surveys are among the unhappiest in the world and it is not just a case of “switching” off their computer or phone to avoid bullies when technology is such a vital tool and part of a young persons life today.

Social media sites allow you to block indivudual users without affecting your ability to continue to use the site normally.

Drac… It isn’t as simple as just blocking the number. He saw these people every day, the bullying was relentless.

This is true, but I was responding more the the title of the shared video, which claims the text mesage caused him to commit suicide.

Your comment that he was probably mentally ill is kinda silly, are you saying only mentally ill people commit suicide?

Yes, that is exactly what I am saying. It is not a normal behaviour.

Regarding the parents, they are at no fault, they only hear what they need to hear, thousands of parents wake up to find their kids dead from suicide not knowing anything was ever wrong.

As for his parents “failing to identify the state of his health” .. Did you never keep secrets from your parents?

Parents are responsible for both the physical and mental health of their child, i’m not sure why this would be a contraversial statement.

In regards to keeping secrets, I wasn’t at home enought to even speak to them for the most part. I would describe them as being bad parents for creating an environment that I didn’t want to be in. I’m not sure how any of this is relevant though.

Draculina I don’t think you can simply put it down to “a healthy person would have blocked the number and carried on with life”. You are talking about someone who has to attend school with this person, knows everyone they hang with, see’s them in a mall etc, you make it sound so easy

I am very familiar with bullying, it really is that easy. There are far larger problems in life to deal with than what people people think about you or say to you.

And so what if he was disturbed, that still made it ok for someone to drive him over the edge!

He commited suicide entirely by his own free will. He was not forced to, that would be murder, not a suicide.

Except all the Olympic level (elite) sport that isn’t, like gymnastics, equestrian, ice dance etc.

Gymnastics definitely requires an abnormal level of physical ability and skill, as does ice dancing.

I wouldn’t really call them sports though, as the winner is determine by a process that is too subjective for my liking (maybe competative art would be a better term, I don’t know).

Equestrian events are a strange case, as the horse is effectively the one being scored on performance, not the human

Not really Draculina as it’s an even playing field or should be… For example in the Champions League let’s say a team from Romania progresses past the group stages, they get paid the same amount as say Barcelona for progressing. UEFA don’t start getting into politics about how Barcelona are superior and should get more. Wimbledon could do the exact same thing with the pot too, split it evenly between them all, sometimes the women’s game is much more exciting as more rallies go on.

So let assume that men’s tenis generates more revenue from advertising because more people watch it. To pay men and women the same you either have to pay women more than they earn, which wouldn’t happen because it’s operating at a loss. Or you pay the men less, where would you suggest the leftover money goes?
