Look Cath – somebody has to do the sarcasm round here and that task has fallen to me to perform OK?
And I don’t agree that my comment was inane. It might have been stating the bloody obvious, true, but since when was that a criminal offence???

22 June, 2006 at 10:13 am #227487Eggzactly !!! Oh and don’t forget Becky, there is a half time break. A quarter of an hour should be just enough time for you to ”do something nice” for him so that he is suitably relaxed to enjoy the second half of the game.
FFS – what is it with women these days. Moan moan moan, all they want to do is to go out and spend their husband’s hard earned cash. Settle down at home and do something for him for a change !!! You could even try baking a cake – if you can cook at all that is.

22 June, 2006 at 9:58 am #226369These soundbites from dear kind Emmaslush are worthy of Alastair Campbell at his best.
“Governments are a problem, but many mouths keep the starving starved.”
“Whilst we live in paradise, it is a must to help in any way.”
“I wonder if its better for the globalised world to keep poor people poor.”
They are as meaningless as they are platitudinous. BTW what the heck is a ”globalised world”??? It sounds deeply significant but what does it actually mean ffs???

Communicating with foreigners is simple. You speak slowly and loudly and punctuate your comments with a sharp tap on the back of the head with a rolled up copy of the Daily Telegraph.
22 June, 2006 at 12:41 am #227133This is all very well Cath. But I remember the Sunday papers on the 31st August 1997. All the front pages and the inside ”news” pages were full of the fact that she was dead and all were full of ”a nation mourns” stuff.
Problem is that all the editorial pages indside had been written during the week and couldn’t be re-written in the short space of time between her death and the papers going out onto the streets.
They were unanimous in slagging her off really really badly. They hit out at pretty much everything from her total lack of public morals, to her list of indiscretions with numerous males and so on and so forth.
It was the most wonderful example of Media gross hypocrisy that I have ever seen, and the only part of the Media that drew attention to it was Private Eye – for which they will ever be blessed.
22 June, 2006 at 12:34 am #226363Cath – bless your little charitable heart hun. But sadly I fear that your kindness is misplaced.
I can think of no single country in the entire African continent where corruption isn’t a daily way of life. For them it is a normal as it is for us to make a cup of tea. Giving them money to ”help feed the poor” is simply an utter waste of time and effort as it will simply go straight into the pockets of the tribal rulers or alternatively be used to purchase arms so that they can carry on killing each other in ever increasing numbers.
Also and whether you and I like it or not, the plain fact is that HIV/AIDS is now endemic in Africa and is steadily killing off the population. Frankly if is wasn’t this killing them, then it would be either starvation or bloody civil war.
Over the next few years the population of this continent will be drastically reduced. OK there will still be huge numbers that survive but nevertheless we are looking at several million who won’t.
Under these circumstances it seems pointless to me to carry on as if nothing is the problem and year on year sending over thousands of tons of Western aid so that the greedy few can steal it and deprive the starving masses.
22 June, 2006 at 12:25 am #226362It must have taken her ages to type that lot as well
