I have dealt with Angel’s post in PM as I really don’t want to go over this stuff on the public boards. However her points WILL be dealt with !!!
Dolflip’s post seems to me to be pretty fair. Some of the ChatGuides are known to you in their user names (and I guess some aren’t).
If one of them is in a chatroom in their private capacity (NOT signed in as a Staff member) it is unreasonable to expect them to keep on changing when they are not ”on duty”. Remember we do not claim to moderate the site 24/7 and users do have an ignore facility to use if the occasion arises.
All the Guides are volunteers and freely give up their time to assist users and to try and keep the chatrooms safe. As a team we all do our best for the site users. Occasionally somebody will be unhappy – but I guess you can’t win ’em all.
I just wish to God that some of the users would take note of it and protect themselves. For example:
One female user met a male user from the chatrooms and spent some time with him. At the end of their date he punched her in the mouth, breaking a tooth, called her a whore for meeting him and told her he knew where she lived and would follow her home and rape her. She called the Police and he ran off. It turned out that every single detail he gave her was fake and he was totally untraceable.
Another female user spent several occasions in PC with a male user ”cybering”. This led on to phone calls of an intimate nature. During all this he discovered her real name, and where she lived etc etc. He then turned up unannounced on her doorstep one evening and demanded sex from her. Fortunately a neighbour saw what was happening and called the Police. The male user it turned out was a convicted sex attacker who had done this sort of thing before.
I repeat – it can be incredibly dangerous meeting people you don’t know but who you think you do know.
Many many times users are simply nothing like they say they are. You think you are PC’ing with a female but in fact it is in reality a male misleading you and who copies and pastes your conversation and sends it to other users ”for a laugh” and so on.
The only safe way is….. DON’T DO IT !!!
May I echo what Mary has said. The Guides frequently have to deal with situations where users have given out their personal information like MSN addys or mobile numbers to other users. Maybe they have met an online ”friend” or even had a ‘relationship’ with them.
We get to hear about it when the distressed user (usually female) asks for advice on what to do about seriously threatening telephone calls, texts, or emails. Commonly the abuser threatens to beat them up or rape them or worse still attack their children.
We often find that the user’s ‘friend’ has passed on her personal information to another user and this is how the abuser has obtained it. Amazing …. but it really happens.
The ONLY safe way to deal with this is NOT to pass your personal information out to anybody…. ever!!! It can be incredibly dangerous.
I am aware of three female users who have been severely beaten up and at least one who was raped – all as a result of arranging a meeting with another user who got their trust.
For your own protection and safety – DON’T DO IT !!!
They must have sex with disabled people.

Er… its a ‘Clapham’ face lift (from the numerous chav / underclass tower blocks in the area peopled by chav women with their hair scraped back tight so that they appear to have a face lift).

Just a point. It’s not the site itself – it’s certain of the site users that cause these problems.
