You think you have problems!!!
I work as a quality control inspector in a local brothel. All day long I have to ensure that the staff meet and exceed client’s expectations. Most of them don’t care about service standards, they just deliver the product in the shortest space of time. For them customer satisfaction comes second.
I try to ensure that customers come first!!!
Recently my boss called me in for a meeting and told me that if I couldn’t complete my assigned tasks during working hours then I would have to take work home with me and finish it off there.
My wife doesn’t like this idea and says if I bring work home then she will leave me. If I don’t bring it home then I get fired.
What should I do????

23 January, 2006 at 12:10 am #184594Well I am also utterly stuffed on this one. Bat tried everything that I could think of.
Her IE 6.00 is correctly configured; her Hosts file is clear of everything except ”localhost” which is exactly as it should be; her Firewall is the usual Windows XP SP2 version and this was enabled AND disabled with no noticeable effect; she ”cleaned” her PC with anti virus scans, spyware scans; registry cleaners etc etc but none of this altered a thing. The problem remained.
Finally she re-installed XP Home. ( Cold booted up with the CD in the ‘D’ Drive; selected to re-install a ”new” operating System; and after around one hour (whilst it formatted the C: drive) she had a completely fresh Op System).
She re-connected to the internet (using her re-installed Broadband connection) and the same bloody thing happened again. I give in at this point.
She can access sites of practically any description but the ones where you can download Java seem to be barred to her – just as before. The only difference is that on Google the blue headings are now all blue whereas before they remained purple indicating that she had already clicked on them.
Every time the selected Java download page refuses to load. Initially I thought that maybe sha had dowmloaded some ”drive by’ malware that naffed up her Java and also blocked attempts to download and re-install it. Now I wonder if the issue lies with her ISP and somehow her service provider is in some way blocking attempts to load certain pages.
Does anybody have any experience of BT Yahoo parental controls or pop up blockers??? It just may be that the URL’s have in some way been loaded into their lists of barred sites.
22 January, 2006 at 10:01 am #184582She has used System Restore and in desperation, has gone right back to last year – but the problem persists. I am completely stumped on this one. Hosts file ONLY seems to have the ”localhost” IP in it. I feel sure that her PC or Internet Explorer or something is blocking certain IP addresses but I’m buggered if I can see where.
She is now going to totally wipe her HDD and clean re-install her Operating System.
Fingers crossed people.
22 January, 2006 at 9:55 am #182645…….. and so the boys & girls made their way to bed, slightly pissed, but still able to stumble up the stairs to Bedfordshire.

21 January, 2006 at 6:16 pm #184579I’ve spoken with Bat at some considerable length and to be honest I’m a bit baffled with her issue.
Her Operating System is Windows XP Home (SP2)
Her firewall settings aren’t the issue – if it is disabled her issue remains unaffected. Re-enabling it makes no difference. (She is using Windows firewall and the IP’s that she is trying to access are not listed in the blocked IP address file).
She doesn’t have any virusees or spyware or adware or malware that I can find – and I’ve used several different cleaning apps and thoroughly scanned her PC. Nothing detrimental was found – or at least nothing that could or would cause her issue.
I have gone through her browser settings (Microsoft IE 6.0) – where I thought the problem was – but they all seem to be OK to me. They mimic mine – which works OK.
She can access the internet; she can hit on say Google and can search for any page and access it all in the normal way. Apart from below, hewr browser and her internet connection all seem to operate exactly as they should.
The problem comes when she tries to access any page from ”Sun Microsystems” or one that she has previously accessed to download Java.
Any of these pages refuse to load – whether accessing them from Favourites, from Google; or by typing in the URL into the address bar. In all cases the page won’t download or display, although following her on my PC the page loads normally, so there is nothing wrong with the site or the URL.
She needs to access these pages in order to download an uncorrupted version of Java (in order to access the JustChat chatrooms).
I am guessing – but I think that somehow these pages have got themselves into her ”Hosts” file and her PC is looping back through itself instead of going to the URL’s IP address and getting the page. In other words the IP address for the URL has been entered into her Hosts file as ‘127.0.0.1 localhosts’ and her PC cannot resolve it to the correct IP address and thus access the page.
Problem is that I don’t know the detail off exactly how to access her Hosts file and if necessary edit it.
Anybody know how to do this?????
