Aren’t you about due for another dramatic tear-stained farewell (followed by a re-appearance) Emma???
I’m kinda missing the sisterhood’s begging and pleading with you not to go – how much they all lurve you – loads of ”mwah mwah babes” and so on. I haven’t had a good cry in ages.

It was a ‘con’ job Soulie – she was checking you out !!! Mind you what if ”she” was in fact a ”he”…….??????

OK it does beg the question, if the screen isn’t functioning, how can you tell if the old computer is successfully booting all the way into Windows???
As it’s a laptop it is going to be pretty difficult to get a video feed out of it onto a temporary screen or even to instal a temporary video card. Without being able to see what is going on I don’t see how you can successfully transfer data either by the USB drive method or by the network method. You have to be able to ”see” what you are doing on the donor computer.
If the old one was a PC you could remove the hard disc (C: drive) and instal it as a slave in another PC and copy the data across. Problem is that Notebooks / Laptops are notoriously difficult to tinker about inside as they are so bloody compact.
I wonder if you could copy from it with a crossover network cable? I think that the donor computer remains passive and the receiver computer does all the work so it might be possible.
29 January, 2006 at 12:09 am #185552There are two ways (at least) to do this.
The easy way is to insert a portable USB memory stick into the old computer (into a USB slot) and open the relevant drive number (E: or F: etc) and copy the files onto it. Then remove it and insert it into the USB slot of the new computer and open the drive and drag the files to their new destination.
The other method is to link the two computers up with an ethernet / network cable and then transfer the files from one to the other on the newly created network. This is slightly more demanding but if you want to go this route then I can talk you through it if you want.
Hope that this helps.
28 January, 2006 at 7:11 pm #37121Yup i agree both with you Jiggles – and amazingly with Sian.
But the fact is that interesting threads don’t start themselves, they need to be created by users. Now that may be a surpriise to some, and stating the bleeding obvious to others.
The bottom line is that if you are going to moan and whinge then get off your bum and do something about it.
Just drivelling all over threads with inane comments adds little and merely contributes to the piles of slush and garbage.

You object to the fighting – now many are whinging about the bland nature of the threads.
So do something about it !!!
PB what do you suggest we do then :?: I have whined about the bland nature of threads lately, but never whined about the arguing threads, the way I see it, people want to read them or the views wouldnt be so high.
(not saying I want to argue ofcourse)
Frankly – it’s up to you Jiggles (and the other members) All JustChat does is to provide the server space for its users to post their stuff.
If you find it bland or boring, then post something interesting.
Owen – if you feel that the content is insufficiently ”intellectual” or whatever, then take matters into your own hands and post stuff that will capture user’s interest and encourage them to reply.
Your theory was that the fight threads drove people away or prevented them in some way from posting. OK the fights have stopped – now prove your theory.
It’s up to you to bring about the change that you say you want to see.
