That’s really the entire point isn’t it? What real difference does it actually make???
Some like to post on every thread, on and on and on, and eventually get accused of being trivial or gobby; some never actually post at all but only visit to read; some visit regularly but only post occasionally when they have something they want to add; some even (God help us) post their stuff with the deliberate intention of stirring up dissention.
The point is that message boards in general, and this one in particular, cater for all comers whatever their particular posting pattern – provided they stay within the site rules. Personally, I can’t see a problem with this.

Hi PB thanks for replying but im a bit of a numpty with these things, i use Windows XP but i didnt make a note of the error code im sorry to say, will wait until it happens again and then will post again. Thanks
Good stuff. It would help if you could copy the entire wording on the BSOD screen and provide this, as it will assist in figuring out what may be causing it.
for your information, Windows XP is a pretty stable Operating System and isn’t prone to BSOD crashes (unlike say Windows 98X). If you are getting them frequently, then you can assume that you do have a problem lurking around in the background somewhere.
22 April, 2009 at 8:50 am #395523Cas is absolutely correct in her view. Bottom line is that quality is what counts – not quantity.
People often make the mistake of judging a message board by the number of contributors rather than by the content that they contribute. (If only I had £1 for every time the ‘internet gurus’ predicted the demise of JustChat).
21 April, 2009 at 9:58 pm #395752OK start from the beginning and give us a little bit more to work with.
First: What operating system are you using??? (i.e. Windows 98; ME; 2000; XP (Home or Pro); Vista)
Secondly: In order to diagnose a BSOD error (BSOD = Blue Screen Of Death) we need to know the wording that appears on it ESPECIALLY the reference number for the ‘fatal error’.
If you would post this information, chances are that we can find the cause of the fault and suggest a fix or a ‘work-around’.
21 April, 2009 at 9:43 pm #395750I know. I suspect that it’s because they don’t know about it.
Because we live in the UK, where all medical assistance is entirely ‘free at the point of delivery’, we get used to not having to bother about medical issues when we’re abroad. It’s only when something happens to us abroad, and we get landed with a gigantic bill, do we then wish we’d got an E111 (as was) or now its replacement – the EHIC.
The moral of this story is: click the linky above and sign up for a card (or for a replacement) BEFORE you go on your hols to Europe.
The above message is brought to you by the customer services division of JustChat …………………… because – we care !!!
21 April, 2009 at 1:30 pm #395492I know that this will come as a complete surprise to some, but the fact is that the majority of our members really don’t post on here so that they can be belittled or generally abused by others. Some of them even object to being threatened with naked or photoshopped pictures of themselves being posted without their consent. Now who’d have thought that eh?
I realise that this will displease some users who regard that sort of stuff as just being good ‘banter’. Yes the numbers of visitors has dropped off in the recent past – the ones, that lurk in the background to read the salacious details of somebody’s failed romance or gloat over the latest round in an internet war and so on.
But a message board community is a bit more than just that. There are plenty of sites on the internet where you can go and abuse others (if that is your wish) or even have a total stranger hurl accusations and insults at you for that matter. Play your cards right and they’ll even post personal stuff about you, just to be really hurtful.
JustChat is not in that business – sorry.
This won’t please everybody – I know that – but this is the way it is and the way it’s going to stay. So if the current ‘tone’ of this message board is not to an individual’s liking, well I’m really sorry about that….. but hey – you can’t win ’em all.
21 April, 2009 at 9:12 am #395489I apologise for the lack of the customary punctuation marks more usually associated with posts of this nature and hope that this didn’t cause undue offence to any of our members.

Its odd that PB’s missed this thread on his midnight Patrol :)
I’ve not missed it, I just weondered what sort of contribution I could sensibly make.
The fact is that a while ago (last year) the levels of insult and abuse simply got totally out of control. It got so that yer average ‘reasonable’ poster simply didn’t want to be involved with all the ‘fighting’ and name calling etc.
OK so we’ve put a stop to that the hard way and insisted on some basic rules so as to try our best to make this a message board community where our members need not fear being harassed or abused.
OK so the ‘post count’ has dropped somewhat, but personally I think that the atmosphere on here is a lot better. I’m perfectly happy to swap a lower post count for a nicer and more respectful place for our members to post their stuff.
20 April, 2009 at 10:55 am #395431Clement Freud was an extremely witty and talented, if expensive, after dinner speaker. He was much in demand in the 1970’s and 80’s but was also known to be extremely irrascible and suffered fools badly.
I went to a dinner many years ago at which he was the principal speaker. He had spent an extremely boring evening sitting next to the Chairman not only having to eat a poor quality meal, but also having to suffer the Chairman lighting up a cigar afterwards – Clement apparently hated smoking, particularly when done near food.
He was clearly in a foul mood when his turn came to speak and so he stood up and memorably said:
“Mr Chairman, Gentlemen, …. on occasions such as this and bearing in mind the hospitality you have shown me this evening, I have two after dinner speeches – a long one and a short one. You have just heard the long one. Thank you.”
At which point he turned and left the room ….. to a stunned silence.
I suppose that he’ll be missed – but not by those who attended that dinner!!!
