I can see your point about fanatics – sadly they will always be with us.
However, the inescapable fact is that Hamas (and its factional allies) have long been pereparing for this fight. They don’t manufacture the BM-21 GRAD missile nor do they manufacture the QUASSAM missile – both of which they are currently shooting into Israel.
They are said to have stockpiled around 4,000 of these missiles and receive daily shipments from Lebanon, Syria and Iran. Their policy of firing them from heavily populated ‘civilian’ areas is designed to capitalise in the Media on the injuries caused to these ‘civilians’ by the inevitable Israeli retaliation.
The moment that the hand wringing pacifists of the United Nations start complaining about ”proportionality of response” is the moment that you can be sure they have lost the argument.

I first read about this on facebook when a friend posted it, it’s really sad how cruel and irresponsible some people are.
I suspect that they are more stupid than cruel and more incompetent than irresponsible.
Chances are that it didn’t occur to them that sweet little puppies piddle all over the place and need exercise every day.
They look so sweet and endearing with Andrex loo paper wrapped all round them – unless it is YOUR Andrex loo paper and your new puppy has pinched the last roll, just when you need it most, and has spread it in tiny bits all over the house.
29 December, 2008 at 11:43 pm #388199I really adore the environmentally friendly recycling tree huggers.
Around a year ago the London Borough of Richmond – whose mission statement is (wait for it) “To be the greenest Borough in the country” brought in a so-called recycling scheme.
They purchased hundreds of thousands of big blue plastic bags for paper – quite forgetting that once emptied they blew all over the place and festooned trees etc.
Glass and plastics etc had to go into a black plastic box.
This meant that instead of just one lorry per week, we now have THREE lorries per week to collect all this separated recyclable rubbish.
They then discovered that the rubbish had to be emptied into a common tip (in Brentford) and got all mixed up together …… before being sent off for landfill.
To counter this, they’ve just spent another £1 million + to equip themselves with a fleet of lorries that can keep the rubbish separated ….. just in time to discover that China etc no longer wants the recyclable rubbish …………
……. and so off to the landfill site it goes again.
29 December, 2008 at 11:33 pm #388200I know – it’s terrible isn’t it??
I’ve even heard of chatroom / message board users who called 999 because somebody accused them of lying. I mean how awful is that???
“You’re not ill, you’re a ****ing liar”
“Right that’s IT !!!! I’m calling the Police RIGHT NOW !!!”
Needless to say, the Police attend each and every such incident.
29 December, 2008 at 11:26 pm #388092LL’s point – “Lending is still available but only to those that can afford to repay it – low credit commitments, stable employment ( not reliant on overtime to keep up the bills ) and a good track record. This puts many out of the picture as overdrafts are not renewed….
“ actually hits the nail smack bang on the head. The entire point of making a loan to somebody (or to an organisation) is that it gets repaid plus interest due.
Whingeing on that the banks won’t lend money is to miss the point that indeed they won’t lend money ….. but only to those about whom they have a reasonable commercial suspicion won’t be able to repay it. You don’t give trade credit to a customer if they take your goods and then don’t pay or can’t pay you for them 30 days later.
The lending ‘mess’ that has occurred is primarily because loans were made against flimsy security (that recently has vanished) to people who either never could repay, or lacked the will to repay.
I cringe when I constantly hear how awful it is that Woolworths, MFI and others have gone into Administration. They were badly managed unprofitable companies – accidents simply waiting to happen.
Yes there will be people that make money in the current (and forthcoming) recession / downturn / world crisis / – but then clever talented people always will make money.
29 December, 2008 at 11:15 pm #388208Oh dear oh dear. He hasn’t even been sworn in as ‘Pres’ yet and already markers for his failure are being set up.
Of course it’s a well known fact (isn’t it???) that George Bush is single handedly responsible for all the ills that have befallen the world over the last few years. Looks as though his successor will have the same burden to bear.
BTW – if Hamas and their ideological supporters (Iran etc etc) really want to have peace in Gaza (which they don’t) all they need to do is to stop shooting thousands of rockets and mortar bombs into Israel. This won’t happen because they then wouldn’t have a way to provoke Israeli retaliation – and that would never do would it?
27 December, 2008 at 9:02 pm #388088I suspect Bas that it’s because the sales of new cars have slumped over the last few months. (“58” is the second half of 2008). My guess is that even if manufacturers offer enormous discounts on their new cars, the difficulty in obtaining credit will screw up their sales.
Dealer margins are only around 17.5% anyway so there isn’t much room for discounting. I think that the new registrations in 2009 (09 and 59) will be even lower.
However ….. isn’t it interesting how al the pundits bleat now and yet – and yet – isn’t this exactly and precisely what the “anti-global warming” brigade want? Less petrol used; fewer cars on the road; fewer flights being taken by people; surely they should be praising us all for saving the planet???
26 December, 2008 at 11:06 pm #388179Hiya Cat. Assuming that this only occurs with Internet Explorer, you could try opening IE
click on tools >>> internet options >>> advanced tab >>>>then click restore defaults. This ought to restore IE back to its original settings (including displaying the scroll bar).
I suspect that this behaviour (of IE) is caused by the game you were playing re-sizing the page and “hiding” the scrollbar.
Let us know if this fixes your issue.
26 December, 2008 at 10:37 pm #388131So is your issue now fixed??? (or can we offer you any more assistance?)
