It’s not pish though,,here is the first paragraph of Esme’s post:
Suicide rates across the UK are generally falling, but the latest statistics, show that the Bridgend rates were higher than the national average. When one follows another in quick succession, the temptation to link the deaths, inadvertently or in banner headlines, can prove too much. From this, a suicide cluster may be born.
The way the public, the television, press and official facilities have all interacted has created a phenomenon that has gone beyond suicideFrom the Sunday Herald:
I have highlighted Esme’s errm quotes:
Paragraph 20: Suicide rates across the UK are generally falling, but the latest statistics, show that the Bridgend rates were higher than the national average.Suicide rates across the UK are generally falling, but the latest statistics (up to 2006), show that the Bridgend rates were higher than the national average. In 2006, three young men took their lives in the town, and since then the number has risen to nine.
Paragraph 22: When one follows another in quick succession, the temptation to link the deaths, inadvertently or in banner headlines, can prove too much. From this, a suicide cluster may be born.
Paragraph 2: “The way the public, the television, press and official facilities have all interacted has created a phenomenon that has gone beyond suicide,” says Phil Jones, a research fellow at Swansea University. “The phenomenon is now Bridgend and that is beginning to affect everyone involved.”

No one is picking on her……..you are making this into a drama…anyone knows ( even the most intelligent person you know) that you do not take anothers words without a quote or a link, let alone chop it up and use it verbatim..someone spotted it..it was wrong and you know that! Let it go.

It was stolen and my “pal” is literary that’s why it was like a red flag to a bull and that’s why I called him a literary freak…. you of all people would understand that….I never made a big deal out of it, but it’s getting bigger now and I love you too!
26 February, 2008 at 9:57 pm #313398Yes, it does matter. I would be ticked if I had put the research in and someone stole my work, without giving me credit.

I would have thought it glaringly obvious that this was a gleaned piece of research and not a conjuring feat of facts and figures plucked from my own imaginings. I didn’t quote the newspaper in question for one big fat reason – they don’t allow representation of their articles in any way shape or form
Actually NO..if it was, Bulldog would not have said “good post” and he isnt stupid is he? I can see you posting a segment but when you chopped up the text but still used it word for word not even verbatim with no link…that’s just wrong and you know it!
As for bullying Waspy- give us a break – We would never bully Esme and she knows that!
25 February, 2008 at 5:57 am #314190I’m not watching it then.
25 February, 2008 at 3:42 am #313386Top marks Fasty and Genie (you literary freak  ) for observation…having read the article,
“Despite the spate of apparent suicides and the openness in communication about the deaths on online social networking sites, South Wales Police insist there is no evidence of suicide pacts or an internet cult in the area. There is, they say, only one link in the chain of deaths – the press coverage.”
NO,no,no..of course it’s not Bebo or Myspace they have thousands of users..internet, could be if there was evidence of some of them using the suicide chats..but there isn’t. So now they are blaming the media coverage, no doubt it might enhance the situation, but c’mon, something is very wrong somewhere……..where? And that is the question.

As I’ve said the suicide rate in the Bridgend area is the same as the rest of the country
15 suicides (in the age group concerned) per 100,000 is the national “average”
17 suicides in Bridgend in 12 months and 120,000 people live in the Bridgend area
Not exceptional, not extraordinary, just very tragic, as is any other suicide
Even before 2007, the county borough of Bridgend was one of three counties in Wales showing above average suicide rates for young males aged between 15 and 24.
But the numbers involved were relatively small, with official figures up to the end of 2006 showing an average for males in the 15-24 age group of just three suicides per year.
Last year, however, the rate of suicide for young males tripled: in 2007, there were nine males from Bridgend in that age range who took their own lives.
icWales.co.ukEven before the latest deaths, suicide rates among men in Wales were the highest in the UK. In Bridgend, three 15 to 24-year-old men committed suicide on average every year between 1996 and 2006.
TimesonlineI agree Slayer it is indeed very tragic.
I read somewhere that the national average for females between 15- 24 was 2 per 1000. As we are still only in February of this year and 4 teenage girls, one boy and a man have taken their own lives, in this area, I think this is well and above a usual situation thereby making it extraordinary and exceptional.22 February, 2008 at 4:11 am #313626Let’s hope the father is supporting them all eh! I think boys need to understand who they are f ucking…that’s something to look at I think. How about it boys, it’s a good idea yes?
