Pete.. you go round and round in circles. We have discussed the death penalty before and this Government has stated categorically it will not be bringing back the death penalty. And…. unless we specifically vote a political party in who make bringing it back a priority, i doubt it will ever return in this country.
In the face of that fact, you can say it till the cows come home, but it ain’t going to happen Pete.
13 January, 2010 at 10:38 pm #426579I do not think that bringing back the death penalty is progress Pete. The reverse in fact……..mind you, it strikes me that everything is in reverse. Aren’t we supposed to be amongst civilised human beings in this country? Didn’t our legal system stand for fairness and honesty?
Bringing back the death penalty is not the answer. It isn’t even one of the answers. It isn’t even a hint of an answer.
If we allow everything to go into reverse, we can forget justice for the victims and their families. Nobody will care about anyone in the end.

13 January, 2010 at 10:31 pm #426577We have been through this pete… the govenment have been very clear, they will not be bringing back the death penality in this country.
So, we have to work within the confines of that.. .much as a lot of people would like to see people hung for these crimes. The next best thing is to ensure that the punishment fits the crime.
Life should mean Life. But we need to word the petition so that it is taken seriously.
13 January, 2010 at 10:14 pm #426574I do not believe any human being has the right to take another’s life.
13 January, 2010 at 9:04 pm #426571I think chemical castration is a way of releasing people back into society as “safe”. I don’t know how much of a deterrant it would be. Now the real thing… that might work, but I doubt it would be allowed.
actually, on second thoughts, maybe that is exactly what we ought to be considering. I have a sneaking feeling I have read a paper on castration though and it didn’t stop people who really wanted to hurt others, in fact it made them worse. The fact is that a lot of these crimes are not really about sex, but more about power, control and violence.

just in case someone thinks i will
If you want to send them on holiday, you shouldn’t really send them to a place they might get eaten!
It would be equivalent to one of us going to stay with that German who eats people!
