I hate to think of any creature being needlessly killed but like anc my family has strong farming connections. My daughter married into a sheep farming family and one of my nieces married a rare breeds cattle farmer.

Because of TB some rare breeds of cattle are in danger of becoming extinct and rare breeds that used to roam freely in fields are now reared in large sheds in semi sterile conditions because of the fear of them contracting TB.

Badger numbers had reduced significantly before mans intervention giving them protected status… this has resulted in an increased population and unfortunately in increased TB amongst farm animals.

Of course a vaccine would be the best intervention however there isn’t one available right now that will be effective. The problem is here and now… I think a cull is the only short term solution.. this should be reviewed regularly and if there is a viable alternative I would be in favour of it….. at present there isn’t.

    horrible misconceptions.

What century are you living in ?

Ummmm…that was what the tourist said, his examples, not mine.

and actually very true jen…… those are the examples I would have given based on recent experience of being in both countries. Your point about England not having a product that springs easily to mind is valid….. years ago we were known for quality…. Rolls Royce and all that…. ah…. those were the days :D

I try never to moan Panda…much better to see the best in people and situations, nicer to surround yourself with those people too….. life is too short.

Im still on a high after the Olympics…….how many people wasted energy moaning about them and mostly ended up like me….. doing a jig, smiling from ear to ear and singing Land of Hope and Glory

    :D :D :D

Actually jen…. how true, The only things I could come up with are food related too…. Yorkshire Pudding for instance…I once bought a porcelain British Bulldog dressed as a policeman for a friend in Australia….. you are right though nothing springs to mind easily.

    Hi Jen

I was referring to that case of the 30 year old teacher and 15 year old pupil who have run off together. It was in the news today. I just wonder what on earth was going through the teacher’s mind. The fact that they both went on the school trip to Los Angeles was mentioned.

Had to laugh Terry I just watched the BBC news and the reporter referred to this couple as an “absconsion” well if that’s a word I have never heard it before… neither has google :D

I went to an all girls school too, the teachers in the school were also all female. Have to say I’m in favour of single sex schools for all sorts of reasons including the male female attraction thing.

In the case Terry mentioned though I am bewildered why it was the leading story on the 6 o’clock news yesterday? I do think the whole thing has been blown out of proportion.

Its true this teacher has behaved unprofessionally and Im sure he will live to regret it… however lets not forget the female is a young adult and from what I have read went with him willingly. Teachers have a position of trust but they are only human, a fifteen year old young adult is old enough to know whats right and wrong…maybe she made a bad decision going with him…. but it was her decision.

She should not have gone with him… and he should know better….. but the lead story on the News?… I dont think so.
