“Expect nothing of the day and you won’t be disappointed.”
From Anthony Hopkins’s bio, although he may have got it from someone else.
I find it particulary relevant in this “must have, want now” age we live in.
It reminds me of living in more simple times before “me, me me,” greed is good” and mass marketing was shoved down our throats 24/7/365.

Hi Words,
This thread was an example of Terry’s propaganda. He intentionally took what could be considered a positive article by the Daily Mail and turned it upside down to support his own anti European arguments.
If anyone deliberately missed the point, it was Terry, but he knows that.
I would go as far as saying he deliberately set about…[Read more]

One of my posts concerning Philip K D i c k was turned into Phiulip K Richard by them. Add ‘heads’ to the author’s actual surname and you get a clearer idea of the censoring system practised here.

Hi Words.
Terry knows full well I didn’t spoil the thread. I made a valid point regarding Brown being largely responsible for us not joining the single currency.
Terry conveniently choose to ignore that.
This country is, as far as I am concerned, from the research I have done, a wealthy country and the arguments also put forward by yourself and…[Read more]

Good morning!
Welcome aboard this JCB01 flight to Mayhem and Bedlam.
Please fasten your seat belt, take your protein pills and put your helmet on.
Trying time today will be for as long as you can hack it.
There are no emergency exits however, you can check out any time you like but you can never leave.
You will soon be beginning your descent…[Read more]

Cloud Cuckoo Land refers to an unrealistically idealistic state where everything is perfect. (“You’re living in Cloud Cuckoo Land, mate.”) It hints that the person referred to is naïve, unaware of reality or deranged in holding such an optimistic belief.
The reference comes from The Birds, a play by Aristophanes in which Tereus helps…[Read more]

Wise choice. Apparently the man who invented jogging as a healthy form of exercise died whilst out jogging.

“Blow your / my own trumpet / horn.”
Apparently, it refers to the practice of heraldry.
It comes from the sense of ‘horn’ as a trumpet, and one who blows his own horn is someone making great fanfare about himself, as is usually more appropriately left to a herald.

Yep, fully agree there with you, tinks.
Mind you, I was a bit rebellious but my parents always too the school’s side.
I get the impression the secondary school that this girl attends are in for a rough ride with the mother!
