I was under the impression that it’s a thread for serious discussion and debate…as such it doesn’t need to be lightened up.
You back to being the thread police? :P

As for tackling it, all the charity is doing is raising awareness…
You obviously didn’t look at the website properly. Although the majority of the empty homes are privately owned, some are owned by the local council or social housing.
The gov could easily put legislation in place to ensure that any home does not remain empty / derelict for no very good reason.

That is disgusting. Why isn’t this government looking at making them habitable?
Sounds obvious and easy doesn’t it? However many of the empty properties are privately owned. There is a lengthy process involved in the government (via local councils) taking ownership of such properties, then there’s the money required to either improve them or demolish and rebuild.
Unfortunately there isn’t a magic wand available right now.
There’s a charity that’s in place to tackle this http://www.emptyhomes.com/
It’s the government that’s dragging it’s heels.

Hmm.
“Oh dear! It seems as though I’m getting to you” is a better way of saying it.
Actually, you’ll only start getting to me when it gets to match point. You haven’t even come close to winning a set yet.
Well if we’re not @ match point, and I haven’t won a set yet, then surely, neither have you?
Perhaps you should stop double faulting.

like i said debate the topic not the author is the way forwardDo you mean the author of the topic as in the person who started the thread?
No, i mean peoples responses to what others have written having a tendency towards a certain direction or attitude depending on the author of a post rather than on the merit of the post itself
Ok, ta, thanks for clarifying.

words,
I understand your frustration, and I also agree wht you that panda has made some very good points. All II am trying to say is that they are getting away with one of the oldest political tricks in the book. They make it personal, they throw slights and insults at you, and eventually you’ll respond so that debate is cheapened.
Tell them to play the ball, not the man, and get back to the main political points.
Otherwise, the good points made by yourself and panda are wasted.
Well said, but I’ve made my points in response to Kenty’s original post, and the thread in general, but they’ve been ignored.
It’s far easier for some to take my one comment out of context and twist it.

Tut! Grammar Terry! Surely you shouldn’t be ending a sentence with the word “to?”
Surely your sentence should have read:
Never mind the word “racism” Wordsworth; how about the word “stupidity” to which you singlehandedly, seem to have given a whole new meaning.
I love prepositions in the same way that you love a big mac and fries luv x
LOL ok, I confess to the fries but I don’t eat meat so you’re wrong on the big mac.
If you want to argue about grammar might I suggest you actually do a bit more research on the subject . Or maybe you could phone a friend.
Oh dear! Seems I’m getting to you.
May I politely remind you, that it was YOU that started the whole correct grammar issue on here. However, like most of your ilk, you can dish the criticism out but you can’t accept it back.
Time to calm down, Tel boy. Why don’t you look at a nice picture to chill out to?
