Terry, your figures are woefully unsubstantiated and you have a track record of changing them from post to post.
In other words you couldn’t be bothered to research them.
give me some examples of figures I’ve quoted and why (exactly) they’re “woeful”.
And also give me an example of where they’ve changed form “post to post”.31 May, 2012 at 5:50 pm #497912@Sgt Pepper wrote:
Easy there now Tel.
Agreeing or disagreeing is grand .. But I can’t abide this total dismissal of posts lark. Jen is making a case, as are you. Reasoned debate certainly gives scope for questioning the interpretation of facts. I defended your right to speak without fear of dismissal elsewhere on this site. I suggest you afford Jen at the very least the respect to be able to do the same.Jen
I must apologise for my posts if they’ve offended you..
That certainly wasn’t the intention.

I have had many a CV from British applicants …. and I am so shocked sometimes at the lack of effort put into the bloody things….some don’t even have their date of births on them….
I’ve never seen a CV with someone’s date of birth on it. How is someone’s age relevant?

The UK economy was built off the back of immigrants, slaves and the colonies…
The first immigrants arrived in this country following the end of World War II. Their jobs were limited and didn’t really build the economy at all.
We’ve never had slaves working in this country either.
Again, a case of facts over fiction. And I don’t really want waste my time discussing – with you – a subject that you don’t seem able to discuss rationally.

Go and ask those in your area who employ Eastern Europeans why, seek their experiences.
Minimum wages, plus they prefer agancy workers who can easily be laid off. There are 17,000 employment agancies in this country. And that’s how the Poles got a foothold in the first place.
Again, can i please ask you for facts rather than fiction. That’s if you want me to continue replying to this thread.
31 May, 2012 at 5:00 pm #493961I’m not British, nor am I anti-British either.
It’s a strange world when there seems to be no pride or faith in the British from the British people themselves.

Not just my story though Terry, it’s a common theme in this part of the world unfortunately.
It’s opinion Jen. And very anti-British.
I have opinions too, but try to rely on facts and figures to get my point across.
The UK economy was built on British graft and didn’t rely on Polish immigrants to get it there. We were once the 4th largest economy in the world. These days we’re the 6th.
Poland, by comparison doesn’t have much of an economy and never has had. Do you ever wonder why that is?
As I’ve said before – stick to the facts and don’t base your opinions about British workers on emotion and what you see in your little corner of the world.

I worked for a place last summer which only employed Brits. The hours were long (we did an 83 hour shift one week) and the work was hard and physical.
There’s no shortage of British grafters – in fact the owner of the business himself didn’t think Polish workers were up to it and wouldn’t consider employing them.
That’s a very different story to yours.

We did, Tel didn’t.
He doesnt like the polish, not sure if he knows there are other countries in the EU and all of them immigrate to England and Ireland.
I shall leave you and Jen to give each a big hug knowing that you scared the nasty man away.

[So tell me…if you could dramatically improve the financial quality of life for you and your family by working abroad, you’d say “oh no, I couldn’t possibly leave this job in my home country paying peanuts, I’ll stay here and live on the breadline thank you”?
As for putting Britons out of work, most of the businesses I know that employ Eastern Europeans do so because they can’t find any Brits to do the jobs because they can either “earn” more on benefits or they think the work is too demeaning or hard. The Eastern Europeans seem to take more pride in earning good money and supporting their families through their own hard work than many Brits do…
Jen, your post is riddled with generalisations and cliches. I’ve heard them all before; Brits are lazy and Poles aren’t.
My only gripe is with the Brown government who allowed all of this to happen.
Can I just say that using emotion to try to win a discussion is futile. It might be better in future if you just stick to the facts. It’s gets pretty boring if you don’t.
