toybulldog replied to the topic Are there any native Welsh-speaking areas in England? in the board Getting serious 16 years, 2 months ago
I see no ones actually tried to answer Bass’s question.
ok then . . . . .
It’s unlikely.
We can blame the Romans firstly for pushing the Celts back to their forests and mountains, and then a succession of Saxon, Norman and then English kings.
So if we look at the larger towns near the border, like Chester and Hereford, then language was…[Read more]

agreed Quiet Man.
Remember being on the North Circular once with slip roads and cameras galore. Signs said 40mph limit and I checked to make sure I was ok but the next one said 30. But was that for the dual carriageway or the slip ? But wait it’s 40 again so I can accelerate. Or can I ? Have to be careful as another yellow box of subterfuged…[Read more]

toybulldog replied to the topic Jack Jones – can they all be wrong??? in the board Getting serious 16 years, 2 months ago
quite shocked by this.
Loads of Labour politicians joined the Communist Party before the war. It wasn’t such a big thing really and didn’t have the later Stalinist connotations of course.
But wasn’t Jack Jones one of the moderate Union leaders, or was that part of his cover ?

Yes and No
On this season’s form he doesn’t deserve it all. How many league games has he started….12 ?
On the other hand is the Paul Newman factor. Having been nominated so many times I don’t think anyone could really begrudge Giggs winning it at last.
He certainly deserves it more than David Ginola ever did. -

If you had a spare five grand knocking around what would truly make you happier :
A – Travel round the world for a year and get the experience of a lifetime.
B – Pay the medical costs for a very ill friend or member of family.
C – Plasticise yaself up a bit.

Hate the fact that the cheese-eating surrender monkeys have a much better anthem than us. La Marseillaise is a lot more bloody stirring than our dismal dirge with its rallying call for perpetual enslavement.
I’m not anti-monarchist, just glaring at the band a bit. At least the French have something to really inspire them as they run away from…[Read more]

It reminded me of the days when I worked in a supermarket. Rampant animals weighing many tons would storm up and down the aisles exactly like that – usually while dressed in shellsuits.
Like the bloke in the video I did try to block them off with a trolley but for some reason that didn’t work too well either……………

Then they can publicly apologise for being more talented, hard working or lucky than the rest of us, and for ever having made careers out of that.
