My auntmaud has just left – tough ol’ east end girl who had miscarriages on the underground during the blitz and all that. She was 90 and although mugged for her pension a few times in recent years (by recent arrivals to this country), kept a tight hold of that bag of hers and fought back well until the strength of her assailants was too much bless her. Her husband, having died fighting for this country during the second world war was not around to help her.

Anyway, they played this cheesey Max Bygraves song in the church. The kind of tune that was popular up the pub of a friday night during the 50’s. And there wasn’t a dry eye in god’s house.

I’m having one poem and one song at my farewell and I know what they’d be too.

Well then, I guess young jodie has always existed in the shadow of that jordan bird. But it’s all rather sad. Jordan was, and without doubt, a very stunning young lady until the plastic /showbiz mentality took over which has destroyed so many, and I can only agree with John Lydon’s comments on that jungle programme. But then of course she is a complete success on her own vapid terms. The problem with these girls is that, eventually, they open their mouths. To some that is a godsend but do you get what I mean ? Personality being the core of character and all that………..

I set my three year old up in front of the kids TV early one saturday morning. Cereal, banana, drink, favourite toys…….propped on cushions she was like a miniature princess of sheba.

Then I turned to the box – “What side do you want on sweetheart ?” I asked.

Is this thread about two-tone, reggae or ska ?

It seems to be more about the first (which like lovers rock is English) because these can be very different things. How about rock steady, dancehall, ragga, dub or even mento ?

Jamaica, that melting pot of so many different cultures; a small island in the Caribean that is responsible for so much fantastic and innovative music. Check out what the sound engineers and original dj’s were doing long before we had hip-hop or rap. But then as in the case of blues (and humanity) you can trace these rhythms all the way back to Africa. Black music tends to accentuate the off-beat and, quite simply, I love it.

And yes, Jerry Dammers is a very cool guy too.
