    True Lies Three

As I approach the edge of the cliff
    Suddenly I start to drift
Floating down as if in a dream
Toward a dark and murky stream
Dwarfs working with axe and pick
Cutting rock both thin and thick
    Collected up by industrious elves
Who sort them on to slate like shelves
Pixies with clip boards looking busy
Rush around and make one dizzy
    Grumpy goblins looking wise
    Sit around and supervise
    Amid this industrious scene
Are waiting boats upon the stream
There’s cave upon cave carved in the rock
Just like some high rise block
What is this place to where I go
I see a sign saying Baffin Blow
Stand aside a gruff voice said
If you don’t you’ll loose your head
    Then a heavenly maiden supreme
    Is heralded as fairy queen
All creatures bow their head to greet
One dwarf made to kneel at her feet
Off with his head the crowd does scream
Then all of a sudden I am seen
Get him, get him is the cry
I run and then I start to fly
Then to a shaft of light I flee
In an attempt to get free
Then in a sudden almighty flash
Upon the cliff top I do crash
So curious I approach the edge again
But all below is drab and plain
    A deserted quarry is below
So rough and arid nothing can grow
No mention can I find of Baffin Blow
Where was this place that I did go ?

    True Lies Two

I sat peacefully on a side chair
In silence, to free my mind for a while
I had neither drink nor drug
Yet in the calm the room began to spin
Then to sway, as if a ship in high seas
    In an instance it stopped
My living room wall appeared to open
I was lifted and floated toward the wall
It became clear I was in a shaft
First of blue crystal like walls
    Then of green
I was falling at a steady controlled rate
    Till I reached the bottom
    Here a marble like corridor
Led to a dome like room
    With glittering magenta walls
    Where my floating stopped
I came to rest in the centre of the room
From the opposite entrance of arched gold
Entered a woman, surrounded by an aura
She was as a goddess, in white robes
With long golden hair to her waist
Soft white complexion and blue eyes
She beckoned me to come forth
Mesmerised as if under a spell
    I succumbed to her will
She seduced me, taking all that she wanted
    It was an unbelievable experience
Never before have I felt so satisfied
Then I was washed by two maidens
And massaged by a dark skinned
    Angelic like woman
She too took what she wanted of me
I was then returned to my living room
Via the way from whence I came
I have tried to create the situation again
But have not returned to that place
Though I have been to others
They are stories for another time

    True Lies One

    It should not have happened
    But it did happen
    Well I believe it did
    I’m sure it did

    I received a call
    The lady was in distress
    I have two young children
    And my electric has failed

I responded as a matter of urgency
    I examined the mains income
    The cartridge had been removed
    The metre sealed

    I challenged her
    You have been cut off
    She sobbed and broke down
    I comforted her

She told me of her partner
    He was an alcoholic
    Gave her no money
    She rarely saw him

    Feeling sorry for her
    I reinstalled her electric
    Breaking the law
Always a sucker for a pretty face

    She was so grateful
    She kissed me
I fell for her that minute
    But left as I should

I sat outside in my truck
Decided to go get some food
    And some wine maybe
    Then I returned

I spent the night with her
Next morning I paid the bill
    Got her power reinstalled legally
    And bought in some supplies

The days and weeks that followed
Saw me virtually living with her
    Calling each night
    Eating then sleeping together

    Then about three months on
    I called as usual
    An little old lady answered
Saying no young lady lives here

She told me she had resided here for many years
I had no argument, no proof
I apologised, but as I left
I am sure I knew the old lady

    The eyes were famililiar
The shape of her face too
    Where had I been
    To another dimension ?

    Waste of Life

When he walked into the room

    He saw her sitting there
    tried hard not to stare
so he sat in the next chair

It felt good sitting next to her

    He was thinking of romance
then someone asked her to dance
    had he missed his chance

He watched every move they made

In his head ,he heard alarms
she looked so settled in his arms
she was taken by his charms

    They never even spoke

    Never even looked at him
she stayed all night with Jim
    made him feel really grim

At the end of the night

    He saw them both leave
she was hanging on his sleeve
in his heart how he did grieve

    He followed close behind

To the last strains of the band
    but he could not understand
they were walking hand in hand

    Suddenly they stopped

He pulled her into a shop door
all over her, his hands did paw
he stayed back ,he was not sure

He watched as Jim mauled her

    Then Jim took a kiss
    He then clenched his fist
    to intervene could not resist

    He pulled him off her

What are you doing she said
He punched Jim once ,he hit his head
he did not move he was dead

    She called the police

    He could not move
didn’t mean it ,can not prove
now he’s stuck there in a groove

Now he’s sitting on death row

    It’s really very sad
for one moment he was mad
about a love he never had

    A Friend

    Someone who tells the truth
even though you don’t want to hear
    They say how it is
even if this forms a tear

They speak to you each day
    if only to say hello
    They can read your signals
when its time for them to go

    They consider your feelings
    by trying not to impose
    They notice your hair
and the style of your clothe’s

They will not build you up
    when it’s not due
    When others run you down
    they’ll see you through

    They’ll recognise your beauty
    though it’s hidden inside
    Through thick and thin
    they’ll stand by your side

    If your really crap
    a shoulder they’ll lend
    That’s when you know
    you have a friend

    Week End Biker

    Say what you like
    When I’m on my bike
    I couldn’t give a damn

With the wind in my face
    I’ll pick up the pace
And I won’t get caught in a jam

    When I’m on the straight
    The feeling is great
    Leaving the city behind

    Without a care
    Take in the fresh air
    A wonderful way to unwind

    As I reach the bend
    A thrill it will send
To the hairs on the back of my neck

As I lean to the kerb
    Careful not to swerve
    Keeping my balance in check

    When I reach my street
    I’ll put up my feet
With a glass of my favorite blend

    Then all through the week
    My engine I’ll tweak
    Ready for next week end

    THE BALLAD OF BIRMINGHAM

    Theres a place called Birmingham
    that I love dearly
It nestles in the midlands as you know
Where the people speak a very funny language
They say aint and daint, woont and ere and yoh
Just to hear again the rumble of the tramcars
The buse’s as they journey on their way
To watch the liners berth at Saltley dockyard
And see the ships go down the river Rea
The breeze that blows from Summer Lane to Nechells
Are perfumed by the gas works on its course
But if the wind is in the opposite direction
You’ll maybe get a whiff of Holbrook’s sauce
And to hear again the hawkers in the Bull Ring
As they sell their ware’s from barrow and from stall
Now the buildings gone off the permit
We’ll maybe get a roof on the market hall
I have tried to show you Brum in all its glory
You know as much as me I must confess
And now I’m at the ending of my story
I’ll wish you all good night and god bless

    The Squirrel

    From branch to branch
    from tree to tree
    I am amazed
    at the agility

    Then scurry along
    the top of fence
    With grace and balance
    of great sense

    Skip across
    the washing line
    Not a worry
    he’ll be fine

    Jump down
    to gable end wall
    With no fear
    he will not fall

    Across the grass
    avoiding ruts
    To the place where
    he stored his nuts

    On hind legs
    he’ll nibble and gnaw
    Then forage round
    to look for more

    Felicity Pringle

There’s a girl in our village
    Felicity Pringle
    She’s so plain and boring
    she will remain single

    The girls all giggle
    when she pass’es by
    The boy’s never date her
    they don’t even try

    Then into the village
    a new family came
    Mr and Mrs Dawkins
    and their son named Shane

    Now Shane was a biker
    each day could be seen
    Riding with pride
    his mean machine

    The girls all dreamed
    of riding pillion some day
    They waved and hooted
    when he came their way

    One day by the green
    was a terrible sound
    One almighty bang
    Shane’s engine broke down

He stood by the road side
    scratching his head
    What’s wrong with your bike
    Felicity said

    I don’t know he said
    I have not a clue
    My engine won’t run
I don’t know what to do

    Felicity from her bag
    produced some tools
    And over his engine
    began to drool

    Half hour later
    all covered in oil
    She looked up at Shane
    with a knowing smile

    You’ll be OK now
    take it for a spin
    Will you come too
    Shane said with a grin

    Now she rides pillion
    in all sorts of weather
    And looks very fetching
    all dressed in leather

    Felicity’s the envy
    of all the girls sigh’s
    She also the desire
    of all of the boy’s
