This makes me flipping mad! The last few weeks Lions were shot after a man jumped into their enclosure, now a poor endangered Gorilla… When are humans going to be made to take responsibility for their actions/inactions. I know this isn’t the child’s fault but who ever was responsible for that child should be made to pay…they might as well shot the gorilla themselves
i watched this on the news earlier then me and a couple of my friend had the following discussion
    some of friends thoughts
    what are yours????

Some really responsible people parents out there they should be thinking that it is a privilege to see these wonderful animals what is the matter with these idiots
It’s so wrong that they should suffer for stupid people ?

Exactly! We don’t shoot people when they hit animals but as soon as an animal touches a human, BANG!

I get that once the child has got through and is in the hands of the gorilla the risk is the gorilla will kill the child, so that is the only option to them (the zoo) to avoid a child death. But whoever was in charge of that child should be done with child endangerment/neglect!! Then some sort of offence because of the death of a endangered species?

Sky News had two experts talking about this . They were suggesting by the way the Gorilla was touching the child he wasn’t showing any aggression. Although we don’t know what was happening minutes before the shooting.

You also have to ask why was the fence not maintained

It’s not the parents, it’s the zoo. A barrier in a child’s attraction isn’t a barrier if a child can crawl under it. The parents could have been right next to that kid for all we know. 100% the zoo is to blame.

Sorry but as parent of a small child (whether there were barriers or not) they should have either been holding their hand, on reigns or something similar… Someone could have walked off with the child. Not saying there is no responsibility for the zoo but ultimately you are responsible for the safety of your child unless you are leaving them in the care of others. Think people nowadays are all too quick to lay blame with others.
    Well said
Why didn’t they just tranquillise the gorilla??? X

Because they are not quick acting (can take several minutes to sedate, that’s only if you hit it right too) and the tranquilliser may have agitated him to the point where he killed the child?

if you’re stood still with your child, it’s a reasonable expectation at a child’s attraction (which zoos are) that the barrier you are relying on is also suitable for a child. They could have been stood with the child right in front of them at the barrier and he snuck underneath. You’ll reply that a parents job is to care for their child 100% of the time but that still doesn’t change the fact that the zoo is ultimately at fault.
Well, it’s America, so the parents could throw the kid in and still sue, but there are two guilty parties, the only innocent was the poor gorilla, he looked baffled by the whole thing
I just don’t believe that any of the humans in this can absolve themselves of responsibility.

    My thought’s are as follows
Ultimately if MANKIND didnt destroy the gorilla’s habitat and hunt them for pleasure they wouldnt need to be in Zoos or Wildlife parks and this would never have happened, a very sad day and thankfully the child wasnt seriously hurt :-(
    What are yours????

Yes, I more or less agree with all of that.

Once the child was inside, the gorilla had to be killed, but this is a tragedy. The gorilla had done nothing wrong.

Keeping gorillas and other animals in cages is an act of cruelty in itself.

I honestly do blame the parents tho
as if anybody would let their kids into a gorillas hang out
and go on smile for the camera
the poor gorilla was only 17
no age to die is it? mown down in a hail of bullets
