You did sit in the corner for half an hour, didn’t you, Ms K?

I have actually disliked Bruce Forsyth since he first hosted the London Palladium. In those day,s I was fascinated about what happened when i turned the (black and white) television off. It didn’t go off immediately – it telescoped into a small white light whihc lingered for a little while before disappearing. I felt there was some enormous significance in this – but wasn’t quite sure what.

As I grew older, I found the television stopped immediately when i turned it off, which was a godsend as my finger hit the ‘off’ button every time Bruce’s face appeared.

For many years now, it doesn’t touch the ‘on’ button. Very little worth my while watching.

Sorry, Ms K. :rose: Talking down to people like a school teacher is not something I want to do, but several people (not just here) have told me off about it. Gerry even assumed I was a school teacher (I’ve never taught in school, not even for a day) and., being Gerry, he assumed eh was correct and poured on the abuse accordingly. Forgive :rose: :rose:

Why are you involving me Septic, why? Why don’t you just be a man and say sorry. Why do you always avoid taking any responsibility, for what you type? It’s his fault, or hers, etc. No Septic, it’s your fault. Grow a pair and man up. OK.

off to the Headmaster for the cane, Ge

You expelled yourself (several times) and now return with Jeremy Kyle clichés, you naughty boy.

Only Septic could make a RIP Brucie thread, search out offense where none was intended, squeal indignantly and then blame someone else for his foul rudeness…   The man then claims he didn’t even like Bruce. Why make a RIP thread in the first place, so he can mock the dead? The man has no shame whatsoever.

I didn’t mind Brucie, he seemed a kind enough fella. I think it harsh to mock the dead unless they were evil like Jimmy Savile  or Hitler. Nice to see you to see you nice (but not if you’re scep obviously)

He was someones dad, rest in peace Brucie baby.

I was just surprised nobody had done a RIP for Bruce, Mizz.

I wasn’t mocking him. But it’s an amazing achievement- to have no talent yet to leave 17 million to his wife. Anyone who mocks such a man is only mocking himself.

I couldn’t stick him – ever – and his mug was enough to make me turn the telly off or over but quick.

But didn’t he do well! Who can mock that? Fair takes the breath away. :-)

Frankly I could never stand him. I saw that documentary on him and found him to be a miserable old git and I thought him very false. I know it’s very  judgemental of me but I could never think anything other than that his beautiful wife married him because she knew he could help her to give her family a better life style.

She stood by him thick and thin and was very devoted to him. I’ve no doubt she loved him for what he could give her.

I didn’t like him and found him very unattractive but I was addicted to Play your Cards Right so for that I thank him and hope he rests in peace!

he really is quite a character – said so much about Britain.

I keep trying to put my finger on why he was so popular. I feel sure it will help me understand people.

Is it to do with Butlin’s? The very word can strike a note of mild panic in some souls, but for many the cheery chappie who introduced everyone – a constant smile on his face, sarcasm about some people which made everyone laugh but was never offensive, the constantly repeated catchphrase which was never witty but always reassuring (Gerry Kyle?) – was part of the entertainment. Was that  what Sir Bruce was all about?

He was amazingly successful – it really does take the breath away. People who laugh at him are really only making an idiot of themselves.

Any other ideas of why such a talentless man was so successful?

I think it could be that during his prime, it was Post war Britain. where times were good, full employment and people getting the oportunities to get out the slums and into social housing. people then laughed at anything, and what better a friendly faced charlatan, with sometimes some brilliantly camp humour. Royal variety shows were rife. End of the pier shows Booming.. Now people could leave their homes and see the people off the telly.

Then the advent of the cleaned up sit-coms, where they all seemed to have the nuclear family, and lived in Surburbia, the game shows, that promised dreams come true at the spin of  Wheel or the end of a Brucies Conveyor belt.. The Bigger STARS were used for more ratings,, because ratings make prizes, don’t cha know.

he fell in love with his leading assistants, causing more people to tune in to watch this blossoming love story “live”.  spinsters everywhere, were broken hearted :)

And, he was a contributor to the fund raisers for the Tory party. Always on show, cracking naff  jokes to banquet halls full of millionaires.

And he was a Snob.  He maybe never had the rougish good looks, but he played on Himself like a walking, talking Caricature,

    OOO

didn’t he do well, Patronising git. …

My God what a load of mardy arses.

Typical Brit attitude, crucify the successful.

Let the bloke rest in peace ffs.
