Hawkins did not invent the Big Bang theory He worked with it. Sorry to disappoint. Other scientists always said that A Brief History of Time was the most-sold and least-read book in scientific history. He had a wonderful exploratory mind, but I’m not sure what is going to be left of lasting value in it all – apart from an ability to explain advanced cosmology to the interested reader, and a record of human aspiration which disproves his own theory that we’re all just a bunch of advanced monkeys living on a small planet. Still, not a bad legacy.

Where did I say Hawkins invented the big bang theory? I stated until I read Hawkings which are two different things. Hawkings popularised and brought attention to it circa 1988 when he wrote his book ” A brief history of time” which at the age of 8 was my first encounter with it. Maybe you should read posts properly instead of making presumptions of things that weren’t said.

You state ” you are not sure what is going to be left behind or of lasting value of Hawkings”. Thankfully most leading scientists disagree with your assessment of his works which is why he is lauded and admired by virtually every academic working in his field, but then I prefer to listen to the views of people who understand how brilliant he was with knowledge in physics/ quantum mechanics  contrary to someone on a message board quoting a book of mythological nonsense like the bible to validate his views. ( Sorry to disappoint)

    oh dear, rudeboy,

where did I claim that you did say that about the big bang theory?

It was a response to a couple of other posters.

    Sorry to disappoint.

But I’d be more than happy to be enlightened about the lasting legacy. I’ sure you can google it and let us all know.

    Lasting legacy, that is.

At the end of the day He ( Hawkin ) , had a far greater mind and intellect and will leave a far greater legacy than anyone posting here…..

    Sorry to disappoint…

    B-)

I don’t think anyone is doubting his intellect.

I’m wondering and asking about his lasting legacy.

His atheism is intellectually suspect, though I have more time for him than Dawkins.

It’s wrong to say that all the great minds are atheist.

In the Cambridge Science faculty, a majority believe in some sort of creator. In contrast, the philosophers are mainly atheist.

I can’t remember where I got this information from, I’m sorry.

However, as an example, George Ellis has been a friend of Hawking since their undergraduate days together. He is a highly respected scientist and constantly visiting Cambridge to discuss with Hawking , is also a widely respected cosmologist as well as a brave fighter against the apartheid regime in South Africa in the bad old days. He was the character known as Ellis in the soppy love movie they made about Hawking a few years ago.

He is also an active Christian.

So it’s just arrogance to assume that all the great intellects are atheist. They ain’t.

I did get his name right.

It’s interesting that Hawking never seems to have taken an IQ test, and was very scathing about people who talked about IQ scores.

oops, you removed your comment, I see.

I think saying’ his atheism is intellectually suspect’ is arrogant.

i wonder if the people them days understood about people who where a (schizophrenic magician)…….i bet they was bored them days very bored, i think if someone gave me a book them days and some person told me about it and shown me some trick no one has seen before with 2 glasses one with water in it, it might of been the only great thing in them days, god what if someone said they was mr j today, they wud be sectioned surly, i mean fuk sake what if some person goes back in time and give mr j his own glasses, cud mr j still do that trick, and  wud people still blv in him, i asked that to a christen, he said yes he wud still blv in them, well i mean he also said he dont like Muslims even thou he has not read all the Quran, even thou supposly it says in the Quran  “that if someone does not join them to become Muslim aswell, they they should die” but if it is said in it, supposly it is out of context, so  supposly actually it was something related to some war and some guy was saying “if they dont be one of us they will die” as i mean they cud of been kind people and the other people where unkind, so that context makes more sence, anyway back to mr j, i mean i use to know 22 card tricks, i bet he cud do them tricks with cards to, anyway they must of been bored or and dumb them days surly…., maybe also with mental prob/s…..anyone who blvs all things in life is a moron.

well you confused me with your name dropping and blurbbbbb

I don’t see why atheists and believers cant both be intelligent. Surely its about respect and IQ tests prove very little in the greater aspect of things. People who are completely illiterate can often be very very intelligent, wasn’t that his point ? That an IQ test is pretty meaningless. You and Rude having a pissing contest about who’s more ‘ well read’ is pretty similar and also pointless.
