    Ge

My slant might not be to everyone’s taste and while I condemn child abuse, all abuse, this could have been stopped decades ago when the authorities first became aware of it. Why wasn’t it?

My take would be that the right wing media and even the liberal media have portrayed girls from this sort of background negatively for decades but even more recklessly in recent years. Benefit scroungers. Baby machines. Feckless. Irresponsible. Scroungers. Have kids to get a council house etc etc etc. We have been bombarded with negative messages, including on TV. The “scummy” underclass always on the take etc.

Is it any wonder these girls are reluctant to trust the authorities and society in general. I simply do not buy into the argument it is simply a cultural issue. The statistics do not portray this. A pedophile is a pedophile, whatever their background is and it is prevalent in the UK today according to the NSPPC site, the figures are quite shocking actually and disturbingly a third of sexual offenses against girls are carried out by other children suggesting the authorities are not taking it seriously at all, despite the noise they are making now.

Secret Unicorn stated ” He was arrested during the time he was an informant, on suspicion of another child sex offence but it was dropped.”

I find this more disturbing than paying him 10K but maybe I’m just cynical.

As for a conscience, I still can’t quite buy that. Would he have provided the same service if money wasn’t involved? Dunno.

    I believe that everyone has a conscience…

but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t lie dormant.

I have no idea of the informer’s conscience. An appeal, I hope, was made to it.

I do think that if his conscience wasn’t moved, then money should have been paid. It was worth it to save the girls. We live in a world which isn’t straight-forward, and hard choices have to be made.

Where did this information come from? I would think that if it were the case, then the police would be forced to explain why it was dropped, and explain very clearly.

I read it in the Telegraph online. It was also in The Metro and the Evening Standard.

As to why the investigation didn’t end with a charge I guess we’ll never know, though the victim would have been informed of the reason.

The media is powerful and can lead people into a certain way of thinking. It’s called propaganda. We’ve become lazy in our thought processes and accept the picture painted for us, sometimes without question.

Along with your description above, kids in care have been another group of people often misrepresented and misunderstood. They’re easy pickings for people willing to exploit them.

Authorities at long last have realised that these kids are vulnerable, not just troubled or ‘trouble makers’. It’s this vulnerability that has been exploited by people like those involved in this sad story.
