the Balfour Agreement was about the establishment of a Jewish home in Palestine.

The Sykes-Picot Agreement of a year earlier was about the carve-up of the middle East between Britain and France.

It’s been re-carved since. The Americans replaced the Brits, with Israel as their man in the Middle East,…[Read more]

  • Do you think this is because of Brexit?? :-)

  • I’m following with interest, though on the technical question of who has the biggest willy, I can’t really contribute.

I think we can all agree that if there is an all-out thermonuclear war, we’d all be dead, though – even those who don’t participate if a nuclear winter ensues.

I also remember the film Dr Strangelove where life in the bunker is…[Read more]

I hope you’re well, Ms Locket

  • Mister q, if I knew what point you were trying to make, I’d know whether to take offence or not.

I was very pleased when mizzy started writing poems here, and actually found it liberating., posting one of my own. It was her stress on not allowing yourself to be overawed by the rules of verse or the great poets. I loved poetry but did find…[Read more]

Mr Bollox is putting forward the usual Alfie and Morgan Bollox argument. A large number of McGuffins requiring a lot of effort to show how absurd and inconsequential each one is.

  • Well, it’s possible for varying opinions on the raid, as will be seen in the Commons on Monday. However, You’re living in a fantasy of you think that the raid was showing Putin who is boss. It was a very limited raid,  and I’d be surprised if Putin (a man I don’t like) will be provoked enough to make more than a token response. He remains the…[Read more]

This bombing raid is very limited. It’s turning out to be a tale of sound and fury, signifying nothing but total British subservience to the United States.

For the former, I can only express relief. For the latter..you ain’t seen nothing yet once Brexit happens, as Chomsky has pointed out.

  •

Well, you’re the one who started by shooting his mouth off about threatening Russia with how strong the West’s nuclear arsenal is compared with their puny opponents.

It’s the US and their lickspittle ally the UK which is dropping the bombs – and successfully taking great care as to not to drop them on Russians, from what I see.

    And you…[Read more]

  • How apt a Defence Secretary to Trump you would make, Bollox.

Of course it’s rhetoric, but if the bombs fall on Russians or seriously damage Iran’s interests,, then you’ll see action.

The action won’t be nuclear, not straight away. But allout nuclear war is the end of everything – Israel, Russia, the USA, and even bollox.

    Limited nuclear war…[Read more]

  • I see that Mr Bollox is looking for a new career as Defence Secretary to Trump.

The present one tends to be a bit wary of war with russia, but hell, Bollox and Trump have got those Russkis figured out.

Even Israel can wipe the floor with Russia ;-) ..everyone knows that Russia’s nuclear arsenal is a load of bollox, don’t they?

  • I fell in love with the poetry of Delmore Schwartz when I was 28. Summer Knowledge was one of his late poems. What does it mean? Just read it aloud, as though in conversation and without attempting to sound ‘poetic’, with a brief pause at the end of each line, and its beauty may become clear?? The meaning is in the sound.

too simple to just focus on Assad.

The reason that he wasn’t overthrown in the Arab Spring of 2011 (anyone remember that?) is to do with the fact that a mini world war is already taking place in Syria. I doubt a world war will break out, but the Syrians have moved their air force into Russian bases to avoid attack. The Russians…[Read more]

When the real Martin was about last year, he explained to me that as long as the first post of a thread wasn’t offensive, the thread could remain. He would just delete any threads whihc were offensive.

Well, I read Gerry’s opening thread and it was definitely not…[Read more]
