Nobody likes school, probably not even the school bullies.
Sitting at a desk having to do sums and learn things whihc may be interesting in themselves but are boring when taught in school is unnatural.
It’s more natural to look out of the window, dream about other things, look at green fields, long for games so that you can escape the regimented…[Read more]

Milky, read the article properly.
It’s from the Daily Torygraph, but it shows that the accusations are part of a Daily mail election smear, and are without foundation.
The Mail specialises in such smears.
Why not concentrate on today’s issues rather than use guilt-by-association tactics of 40 years ago?
The fact that the Tories have to…[Read more]

16 became the school leaving age at some point in the early 1970s, I think.
It was supposed to come in under Harold Wilson’s Labour government, but was postponed by the financial situation.
Given the levels of literacy and numeracy in this country today, I wonder whether it made any difference!
I’m not saying we should put back school leaving…[Read more]

Am I the only here living in today’s problems, rather than yesterdays?
I love historical argument, and have many opinions on the Miners Strike and the sale of council housing.
But I think it’s best to keep our attention on today – social care, education, the NHS, the Brexit negotiations where so much can go wrong.

Sorry, uni,
it has been noted many times.
But you’re right – an uncanny resemblance.

Edinburgh is a must – the Royal mile and the castle.
But use Stirling as a base in Scotland, Linda.
It’s an interesting and historic town in itself, but it’s also a town which gives you good access to the Highlands.
In case you haven’t found out yet, the lowlands are the more urbanised, industrialised parts of Scotland, and the Highlands are…[Read more]

Jane, read that article from the Daily Torygraph carefully.
The Tory attack ads are going full scale ahead, shrill and hysterical in getting people to try to think about 40 years ago rather than now.
It reveals a smear by the mail (surprise, surprise). Harman was a leading member of the national Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL). The NCCL for a…[Read more]

Looks like it.
So what’s new?? Politicians have a job to do life everyone else. I think Corbyn is honest, but n the end you vote for someone who’ll look after your interests, whether honest or not.
People aren’t stupid. They may get it wrong, but they’re not stupid.
Don’t get taken on the bum’s rush, where you vote and get something nasty you…[Read more]

well, I don’t use personal insults on a political thread, but

you may well be right.
May’s team have been having terrible arguments with the Treasury, and Philip Hammond looks to be for the chop. Hammond is a soft brexit man, and accused May of being economically illiterate.
When i look at May, she seems to hide a clueless attitude behind the confident @I-am-tough’ approach. She doesn’t know what she’s…[Read more]
